Poets - Tour Diaries - Part 3
Just moments before the storm, as we are about to go on stage, we hear the news. The Queen is dead. It’s a curve ball that somehow hits home, and not entirely at an auspicious a moment. For a stunned moment of silence, we are left to gather ourselves from the dregs of what feels like a trainwreck. An end of an era. Where do we go from here? What happens now? Suddenly, and once again, it’s a new age. And yet the world keeps turning. The show is a go. Focus. We will leave it for better men to speak of her. The first lines of Requiem seem surreal sliding out from between my lips. My brain is still clicking like mad to pull all the puzzle pieces of my focus back in place. But then you are there, all of you, the people who hear until they see. And you’re incredible. So completely in the moment, like welcoming open arms, bringing me back and keeping me rooted. Thank you. The night turns into a celebration of life. A jubilee of togetherness, and if my dark disquiet sneaks the occasional peek through the hairline cracks of my composure, it only heightens the sense of immediacy and that we are here now, creating this moment with our spirits coming together. Всего за несколько мгновений до шторма, когда мы уже собираемся выйти на сцену, мы слышим новости. Королева мертва. Это крученый мяч, который каким-то образом попадает в цель, и не в совсем подходящий момент. В ошеломляющую минуту молчания нам остается только собраться духом, словно после крушение поезда. Конец целой эпохи. Что нам делать дальше? Что теперь будет? Внезапно, и в очередной раз, наступила новая эра.
И все же мир продолжает вращаться. Шоу идет полным ходом. Сосредоточиться. Оставим слова о ней более достойным людям.
Первые строки Реквиема, срывающиеся с моих уст, кажутся сюрреалистичными. Мой мозг все еще щелкает как сумасшедший, чтобы собрать на место все кусочки головоломки моего внимания.
Но потом появляетесь вы, все вы, люди, которые слышат, но пока не видят. И вы невероятны. Именно в этот момент, подобно приветствию с распростертыми объятиями, возвращаете меня назад и прочно меня удерживаете.
Благодарю вас.
Ночь превращается в праздник жизни. Празднество единения, и если мое темное беспокойство время от времени пробивается сквозь тонкие трещины моего самообладания, это только усиливает ощущение непосредственности и того, что мы здесь и сейчас создаем момент единения наших душ.

Here's some more Requiem for My Harlequin -trivia: The instrumental melody that starts the song was originally played with a piano in the early demos. It sounded ok, but I felt this is a song that really needs to push the drama over the top, so the melody also needs something, let's say more flamboyant. I experimented with different sounds, and the instrument you hear in the final song is a combination of several elements mixed together, including a xylophone, clarinet, flute, an acoustic guitar, some synth sounds, and a string ensemble pizzicato + staccato. 🎼
Вот еще реквием по моему арлекину-факт: инструментальная мелодия, которая начинается песня, первоначально игралась на пианино в ранних демо. Это звучало нормально, но я чувствовал, что это песня, которая действительно должна подтолкнуть драму к вершине, поэтому мелодия также нуждается в чем-то, скажем, более ярком. Я экспериментировал с разными звуками, и инструмент, который вы слышите в финальной песне, представляет собой комбинацию нескольких элементов, смешанных вместе, включая ксилофон, кларнет, флейту, акустическую гитару, некоторые синтезаторные звуки и струнный ансамбль пиццикато + стаккато. 🎼

There's a little accidental (?) musical reference in Requiem for My Harlequin that I only noticed after the whole song was finished: Listen to the violin phrase at around 0:42, then the final 30 secs of Freddie Mercury’s The Great Pretender, and you’ll notice it contains a very similar violin. 🎻 And of course RFMH has ”the great pretender” in the lyrics right before that. The violin doesn't have that many notes, so could be just a co-incidence, or maybe it was my subconscious at work, but either way, it was still funny when I recently happened to listen to the Freddie Mercury song, and in the end I was like ”...whoa, wait a minute, that sounds familiar...” 😄 Well, if you are gonna borrow from someone, you might as well borrow from the best! (I recently posted this in the comment section on Poets' Instagram, but in case you missed it there, you are welcome!)

* Кот Элвис, хм. У меня тоже есть ( так к слову). Появился спонтанно, только кличка продуманна. Яркий клип, звук скрипки ( мне нравится). Мистер Великолепный, просто неотразим. У всех классные образы ( хоть и кажутся, что похожи). Трость с вороном ( старые боги Асгарда?). А буковки? Загадки для нас. Что автор имел ввиду? Я даже не хочу знать ответа ( наивная, так прям Марко всё и рассказал фанатам ). Таинственность всегда притягивает. И в этом POTF.

”Never work with children or animals”, as the old piece of showbiz wisdom goes. Of course we did just that (one cat, one child-minded person who is also allergic to cats), and after a pretty lengthy filming session, we got Elvis the Cat to both step on the piano keyboard and look towards the camera from behind me while I basically sit still. You can witness these 5 seconds of film in the final Requiem for My Harlequin video! 🐈‍⬛🎹 I actually quite like our outfits, should wear like this every day… 😎

Yep, another day at the office. 12 hours of waiting, eating (snacks&pizza&candy), telling jokes, 15min in front of the camera, then repeat the eating and jokes until the end of the day. It was so much fun filming the video with @miikahakala and the whole crew! Hope you have enjoyed the song & the video🎸🎸
