              Ïîðòðåò Ìàðèè Ëåòàðò - äâàäöàòè äâóõ ëåòíåé æåíû Äæåéìñà Ëåòàðòà, îñíîâíîãî ïðîèçâîäèòåëÿ è ñåêðåòàðÿ Øêîëû äèçàéíà, ãëàâîé êîòîðîé áûë Âèëüÿì Áåëë Ñêîòò.

     The 22 year old wife of James Leathart, a lead manufacturer and Secretary of the Govt. School of Design who had William Bell Scott as its Master.

     ìàå 1861 ãîäà Ýëèçàáåò ðîäèëà ì¸ðòâîãî ðåá¸íêà. Îíà âïàëà â äåïðåññèþ, íà÷àëèñü åæåäíåâíûå ññîðû ñ Ãàáðèýëåì. Âå÷åðîì 10 ôåâðàëÿ 1862 ãîäà Ýëèçàáåò óìûøëåííî èëè ñëó÷àéíî ïðèíÿëà ñìåðòåëüíóþ äîçó íàñòîéêè îïèÿ. Íî÷üþ Ãàáðèýëü âåðíóëñÿ äîìîé è îáíàðóæèë å¸ áåç ñîçíàíèÿ, ðÿäîì âàëÿëñÿ ïóñòîé ôëàêîí.

  In 1862, after Elizabeth Siddal's death, Walter Knewstub went to work for Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Knewstub had a humorous, easy going temperament and fitted in well to Rossetti's uncotiventional household in Cheyne Walk. Sir John Rothenstein, the artist's grandson, takes up the story:

Walking together, Rossetti and Knewstub saw a young woman whose beauty moved them deeply; they followed her home and asked her father for his permission to call again and make portraits of her. Deepty suspicious of "artists", he consented with reluctance. My grand father fell in love with her and, anxious to remove her from a bohemian circle around Rossetti (she was quickly acclaimed as one of the Pre-Raphaelite "stunners"), he married her before he could maintain her otherwise than precariously.

      The model for this sensuous, Rossettian picture was Emily Renshaw, the artists wife. Knewstub met her when he was working as an assistant to Rossetti.

 

       The marriage to Emily seems to have caused a breach between Knewstub and Rossetti. John Rothenstein suggests that Knewstub's sense of propriety was offended when Rossetti used her head for the semi-naked figure Venus Verticordia. In addition Knewstub's salary as Rossetti's assistant was never paid. Knewstub could probably tolerate this as an easy-going.

     ôåâðàëå 1862 ãîäà Ýëèçàáåò Ñèääàë óìåðëà îò ïåðåäîçèðîâêè ëàóäàíóìà. Ðîññåòòè ïîëîæèë â å¸ ãðîá ðóêîïèñü ñâîèõ ëó÷øèõ  ïðîèçâåäåíèé ðàííåãî ïåðèîäà. Îòòóäà å¸ èçâëåêëè òîëüêî â 1869 ãîäó. Îá ýòîì ïðîèñøåñòâèè ñòàëî øèðîêî èçâåñòíî è ìíîãèå îñóäèëè Ðîññåòòè. Ñàì îí íå ïðèíèìàë ó÷àñòèÿ â ýêñãóìàöèè, äàæå óåõàë íà ýòî âðåìÿ èç Ëîíäîíà. Ðóêîïèñü äîñòàëè äðóçüÿ ïîýòà ñ òðóäîì ïîëó÷èâøèå ðàçðåøåíèå âëàñòåé. Ðîññåòòè ïåðåïèñàë ñòèõîòâîðåíèÿ, à ðóêîïèñü ñæ¸ã. Ñáîðíèê  "Poems" âûøåë â ñâåò â 1870 ãîäó.

 

 îêòÿáðå 1862 ãîäà ïîñåëèëñÿ íà (Cheyne Walk) ×åéíè-óîê  â äîìå ¹ 16 ãäå è ïðîæèë âñþ îñòàâøóþñÿ æèçíü. Äîì ðàñïîëîæåí â ðàéîíå ×åëñè è îïÿòü íà áåðåãó Òåìçû. Íà ïðåæíåé êâàðòèðå, ãäå âñ¸ íàïîìèíàëî î Ëèççè îí îñòàâàòüñÿ íå ìîã. Íåêîòîðîå âðåìÿ Ðîññåòòè ðàçäåëÿë æèëü¸ ñî Ñâèíáóðíîì   è George Meredith. Ðîññåòòè ïðîæèë çäåñü  â äîìå ¹16 äî 1882 ãîäà, è ïîêèíóë åãî êîãäà åìó çàïðåòèëè äåðæàòü ïàâëèíîâ â äîìå èç-çà øóìà.

Ïîäðóæèëñÿ ñ Sandys è  Whistler ÷åðåç êîòîðîãî ïîçíàêîìèëñÿ ñ Fantin-Latour è Legros.  Ïîìîãàë â ïóáëèêàöèè Gilchrist's Blake 1863.
