Papal Tiara

The papal tiara is a stack of three crowns that represent the Holy Trinity. As with all papal headdresses it is surmounted by a cross, this one of gold and diamonds. The cross surmounts a globe of lapis-lazuli. On each of the silver fillets are enamel papal coats of arms for Pius IX.
