Q: What kind of "sound" production wise did you have in your mind, prior to entering the studio? (@Angeldaidone)

A: Songwriting and producing are very intuitive up to a point, after which it becomes more like trial and error problem solving. Soundwise we like to keep a clean slate, when we start working on a new album, and even with each individual song. The songs tend to take shape during the production phase, and usually well into it, during the trial and error phase. Sometimes we get a clear view early on of how we want the song to sound, other times we almost pray for happy accidents. Mostly though, you just have to crack that tough nut and solve those gritty problems which present themselves in a frock and some plumes. It’s about letting the song guide you, whether it’s through one of us getting a strong vision of a specific style, and going with that or just taking a shot and seeing what works and what doesn’t. Many songs lead us to surprising new places. It’s only afterwards that you can assess and analyze exactly what you have done this time.

A: Написание и продюсирование песен очень интуитивно понятны до определенного момента, после чего он становится больше похожим на решение проб и ошибок. Звук нам нравится держать в чистом виде, когда мы начинаем работать над новым альбомом и даже с каждой отдельной песней. Песни, как правило, формируются на этапе производства, и обычно хорошо в нем, во время фазы проб и ошибок. Иногда мы получаем четкое представление о том, как мы хотим, чтобы песня звучала, в других случаях мы почти молимся за счастливые несчастные случаи.
В основном, однако, вам просто нужно взломать этот жесткий орех и решить те серьезные проблемы, которые появляются в готовом виде и некоторых завитках.
 Речь идет о том, чтобы позволить песне руководить вами, будь то через одного из нас, получить сильное видение определенного стиля, и идти с этим или просто делать попытку и видеть, что работает, а что нет. Многие песни приводят нас к неожиданным новым местам. Только после этого вы сможете оценить и проанализировать то, что вы сделали на этот раз.
