Знакомьтесь Монтсеррат.
Монтсеррат — владение Великобритании в Вест-Индии, занимающее одноименный остров в группе Малых Антильских островов. Общая площадь острова 102 км2. Остров населяют 10,6 тысяч человек (1989), в основном негры и мулаты. Большинство населения — протестанты (англикане, методисты, адвентисты), часть верующих — католики. Административный центр владения — Плимут, в котором живут 3,5 тысячи человек.
По конституции 1960 года Монтсеррат управляется английским губернатором, назначаемым королевой Великобритании. В компетенцию губернатора входят вопросы внешней политики, обороны, внутренней безопасности. Законодательный совет Монсеррата регламентирует вопросы внутреннего управления на острове. Семь из десяти членов совета избираются населением Монсеррата. Исполнительная власть осуществляется Исполнительным советом во главе с английским губернатором. Остров был открыт Христофором Колумбом в 1493 году.
Первое поселение на Монтсеррате основали в 1632 году ссыльные католики из Англии.
Традиционная отрасль экономики Монтсеррата — сельское хозяйство, причем используется только половина пригодных для растениеводства земель. Основные культуры, возделываемые на острове: фрукты (прежде всего лайм), овощи (перец, томаты), хлопчатник. В животноводстве динамично развивается выращивание крупного рогатого скота на экспорт.
Морской промысел монсерратцев невелик. Около 2 тысяч гектаров на острове занимают леса. Помимо заводов по переработке сельскохозяйственной продукции на Монтсеррате действуют предприятия по сборке электроники и электроприборов, которые обеспечивают 60% выручки от экспорта.
Ведущее место в экономике занимает туризм. Остров ежегодно посещают 40 тысяч иностранных туристов, обеспечивая 10 миллионов долларов дохода. Главный порт острова — Плимут, в 14 км от которого расположен аэропорт Блэкберн. Основные торговые партнеры Монсеррата: США (30% стоимости импорта и 90% — экспорта), Великобритания. Канада, Антигуа и Барбуда. В качестве денежной единицы на острове используется восточнокарибский доллар (равный 100 центам).

Золотой храм |
Мало какие архитектурные сооружения в мире могут превзойти Золотой храм по грандиозности, возвышенной красоте и спокойствию. Центральный храм религии сикхов в городе Амритсар был построен в 1589-1601 и представляет собой великолепный сплав мусульманского и индуистского стиля в архитектуре. Сикхи всего мира, не побывавшие в этом храме, молят о возможности посетить его и совершить там поклонение. Храм несколько раз перестраивался,много трагических событий связано с ним.
Золотой храм называется так потому, что на его отделку истрачено было более 100 кг золота, пожертвованного сикхами.

Roy Hodrien was born in Lancashire, England in May 1957. Site It was while he attended Oldershaw Grammar School that he discovered he had a serious interest in painting. As a result of the encouragement he received there, he went on to complete an art foundation course at the local Art School and then on to further art study in Coventry. At this time Hodrien developed a fascination with animal paintings and he carried out many private commissions. This interest culminated in the publishing of a book entitled ‘Pedigree Dogs in Colour’ which contained over one hundred of Hodrien’s illustrations and for which he wrote the whole text. Until recently the artist owned a beautiful Great Dane. It was only after this and some work in advertising that Hodrien began to concentrate on his still-life paintings.
In this he has mainly been influenced by the 17th Century Dutch Masters, particularly Willem Kalf and Jan Davidsz de Heem. Hodrien’s technique is based upon the build up of thin layers of paint to produce translucent effects that are essential in still-life work. The highlights, though, are achieved through use of thick undiluted paint. It is with these techniques that he aims to capture the richness and precision of the Old Masters whilst maintaining his own individual stamp. Hodrien’s works can be found in collections throughout the world from the U.S.A. to Belgium, Germany, the Middle East and the Far East and he is currently exhibiting in London. To counterbalance the solitude of the artist’s daily life, Roy has maintained an interest in his physical fitness and has a passion for golf. In 1992 he was married to Helen in San Diego, California.

Кругобайкальская железная дорога — историческая железная дорога в Иркутской области, в прошлом — часть Транссибирской магистрали, уникальный памятник инженерного искусства, одна из живописных достопримечательностей Прибайкалья.
Проходит она вдоль северного побережья южной оконечности озера Байкал от города Слюдянка до посёлка Байкал по южной части Олхинского плато.
После ввода в эксплуатацию дублирующего участка КБЖД потеряла былое значение.
Участок дороги от станции Иркутск-сортировочный до порта Байкал, проходивший по левому берегу Ангары, был в 1956 году разобран и полностью затоплен в 1958 году после строительства Иркутской ГЭС, в процессе заполнения Иркутского водохранилища.
