Painting is now his vocation, but Buck Paulson didn’t start out as a full time artist. After serving in the army, Buck attended Brigham Young University where he majored in Physical Education and carried a Speech minor. He went on to play professional baseball and later to teach in Canada. It was not until moving back to the United States in 1962 that Buck felt a need to express himself creatively. In these early years painting was a hobby to Buck. But he soon realized he held a deep passion for art, and he devoted more and more time to it. Buck studied and worked with tremendous drive and energy. With the loving support of his wife, Carolyn, his five children, his teacher Claude Buck, and his friend Sam D. Battistone, Buck was able to realize his dream.
Living in California since 1962, Buck Paulson has had the chance to study the ocean and learn its many moods. Buck has mastered the action and drama of the ever-changing sea. His seascapes capture forever what is only a moment in time. Buck hopes to share his loving respect of the ocean and related subjects with his artist friends. "Into each of my paintings I would like to put the power and beauty of life."
It is Buck’s tremendous energy that is inherent in his vivacious personality and makes Buck a special teacher of painting. Buck offers a new and exciting approach to painting and is featured on the PBS television series "The Art of Buck Paulson".
