Poets - Tour Diaries - Part 17
The Spoon Incident Continued from part 16
Thank you. Um One more thing, sir. May I have spoon, please? The receptionist looks at me funny. Spoon? Um yes please, a spoon you know, I nod encouragingly. I realise its kinda late already, and your kitchen is probably already closed, staff gone home I trail off. Hes still looking at me like hes trying to decide whether to oblige me or be offended by my request. Big spoon? Small spoon? Phew. A table spoon, please, I venture, preciate it, I give a quick thumbs up, like a complete ass-kisser. Or maybe its a dog trainer trick. Carrot good. Stick bad. He nods vacantly, then with all the alacrity of a sloth he veers to his left and absently picks through a jar of pens and bottle openers, there on the counter, next to a printer. I have to admire how he instantly transports me into his world of all in good time, but seriously? Theres a kitchen, right across the hall. Ive never been here before, yet even I can see that. But I can actually see a little frown crease the skin between his eye brows, as he focuses on the vexing task. One appreciates the effort. I lean my chin on my palm to keep my mouth closed, but cant help the disturbed grin tugging at the corners of my mouth. And my eyebrows inadvertently lift up in the proverbial expression of Really? Finally he pulls out a tea spoon, a dusty old thing thats lost its sheen a year ago. He offers it to me, then stops halfway, as a thought occurs to him. The considerate man that he is, he once again springs into action like frozen youghurt and makes it to a tap at the bar behind him. He rinses the spoon with a haphazard splash of water and wipes it dry with a napkin. I never saw where he produced that from, but I do possess a fairly rampant imagination. Finally, he gives me the spoon. Thank you so much. I feel thoroughly entertained, my horizons have been broadened yet again, Im grateful for the lesson on stand-up comedy and taking things as they come. Grinning, I disappear in the heavy glare of neon, up to my suite with the jacuzzi balcony and the jaguar kitten. -Marko
