Alberto Godoy. Primitive Art

beauty_Nikole (_) Born in Cuba in 1960, painter Alberto Godoy, fled the oppression of his native country in 1980. However, he brought with him to the United States vivid memories of his Carribbean Homeland - which are reflected in his bold, colorful, warm-hued, and exotic images. In a body of recent works, Godoy has embraced symbolic folkloric themes depicting scene from everyday historical Cuban life. Godoy's particular representation of primitivism is projected through his use of exaggerated volume, reflecting his philosophy of the nature in the spherical system of our universe. Godoy is one of Houston's most exciting and promising Latino artists. His paintings reflect the bold and exotic images of this Caribbean homeland of Cuba. Godoy's work also depict the wealth and depth of the diverse Hispanic culture exposing every aspect of the Latino experience with themes ranging from indigenous and rural life of Colonial Latin America to contemporary images. Godoy's large pieces are technically brilliant and rich in vibrant color and textures. Site

Huihan Liu and Weizhen Liang. Still life

beauty_Nikole (_) Impressionist still life artist, Weizhen Liang, was born and raised in China. Her early interest in the arts focused on the written word and she received her BA degree in Chinese literature from Ji Nan University of Guang Zhou in China. Weizhen's aunt, An-Zhi Zhonng, was a well respected painter and professor at the Guang Zhou Academy of Fine Arts and she studied with her from an early age. By 1995 she had met and married artist, Huihan Liu, and continued her studies with him. Weizhen and Huihan moved to the San Francisco area several years ago where they now live and paint.
Weizhen is a member of the Oil Painters of America and was a guest artist at the 2003 Northwest Rendezvous Exhibition in Montana. Weizhen's soft color palette and gentle, airy brush strokes combine to create paintings of uncommon beauty and tranquility.
