OK hear me out. I dont bake, I dont really cook, Ive just never been into it. I dont remember ever really baking anything in my life (since elementary school at least). Its not that I lack some rudimentary human skill (I hope), its just never been my thing.
But this weekend I decided to see what happens if I just, well, try to bake something, anything. I found a recipe for blueberry muffins, and I could just about understand everything it said, so that was a good starting point. Its probably the simplest recipe in the world for anyone who bakes more regularly, but when you have basically zero experience (and I wanted to do everything without any help), theres plenty of mini challenges along the way.
I went to the shop to get everything I couldnt find in the kitchen, followed the recipe the best I could, mixed the ingredients to make the dough, added some pecan nuts on top, and put everything in the oven. At this point I was already pretty happy I made it that far, regardless of the outcome (the muffins actually being edible would of course be a nice bonus).
Lo and behold, they looked OK and tasted great! A small step for humankind, a big one for me 👨🍳 And hey, making them was actually pretty fun, and eating something you made yourself does feel nice. 😋
