6 miniatures in ornamental borders (3 in each volume);
numerous initials in various colours and gold with a small vertical border.
Binding: 16th century. Green velvet over wooden boards; monograms on the front and back
covers; clasps and corner decorations of silver-gilt (in the style of bindings of the
U rfé library, according to Laborde); gilt-edged; the monogram reads O.I.A.P.F.R.
and probably stands for the owner’s name. .

(Volume I ).
At the top Noah and his sons come out of the ark onto the land.
The scene at the bottom depicts the founding of Athens, with a
builder receiving instructions (on the left) and a battle scene
(on the right). The upper part of the miniature depicts the New
Testament Trinity.

Volume 2.
The two episodes depicted in this miniature are united by
Gothic arches, yet they take place in independent architectural
surroundings. On the left is Fortune and her wheel which
raised and then dropped Alexander the Great, who is twice
represented. On the right under the tent is Eurydice, Queen of
Macedonia, enthroned and surrounded by court dignitaries
who are poisoning her son-in-law and two elder sons (see O.
Pacht and D. Thoss; the same subject in the manuscript from
Chantilly is interpreted as the three stages of the poisoning of
Alexander the Great).

Volume 2.
Babylon is on the left, depicted as an imaginary Gothic city with
elements of Muslim architecture. The giant in the centre is
Nimrod. On the right the Tower of Babel is inder construction
In the upper part God the Father sends an archangel to the
builders of the tower.

Volume 2.
Antiochus IV Epiphanes is plundering Jerusalem (not Athens,
as was mistakenly stated by Laborde). The temple of Jerusalem
rises up on the right behind the walls. Warriors carry sacred
vessels out of the temple and place them at the feet of
Antiochus IV; the tents of his camp can be seen in the distance.
