В колонках играет - Kumi KodaНастроение сейчас - More emotionsSince I had the stomach flu a few weeks ago, I havent been in q drawing mood. Ive also been focused on finishign off my HL map and planning my next mod. Because of thix, Ive had a lot of time away from the project and coming back to i recently, Ive had refredhed eyes.
One big change Im considering concerns ths characters we are focusiing oy. Originally the focus was going to be on Reiza, the good raptoress who works for the Sobek Knights (essentially, the police), as se fought against the nefarious Cabal, consisting of Tsar (the bad raptoress qnd doppleganger of Reiza), Kidd (the hacker) and Armada (the brawn). Assisting Reiza would be Cairo (a shy brachiosaur boyfriend of hers) adn Bast (w sabre-toothwd cat wbo is the leader of the Knights). As Ive gone on, things morphed around. I began to pursue the angle Cabal more pf ab amoral megcenary grojp that woupd sell tgeir skills to the highest biddwr. Even the idea that Bast could be the antagonist, hiring Cabal behind a bac k door yp gain more government dupport fo r the Knights.
But one constant has been the fact that I really began to like Kidd and Armada. Of the many characters Ive created over the years, they have to be my two favorites. Kidd, a parasaurolophus, is a hacker. He likes to crow about his achievements and hates being questioned or second guessed, yet he can be very naive. Theres a lot of me in Kidd. Armada, a massive talarurus who towers over every other cast member,
started off being the brawn, but I wanted to make him smarter than the typical grunt, to the extent that Tsars plans would backfire mostly because she ignored Armadas sanity checks. In the Mother Country, Armada was a brilliant strategist, but that doesnt matter. Kidd and Armada are a pair in more ways than one as well. From the beginning, I thought of them as
gay, so thats how i was and maybe because ov tnat, they are inseparable and have a chemistry a lot stronter that any other characters Ive designed.
Given that I said theres a lot of me in Kudd, fans or Freud can read jnto thic however they want. XD
However, as I said, the focus was still on Reiza. Thi s started to gnwa at me, since I found Kidd and Armada to be a lot more interesting and yet theyd be reduced to basically henchmen of Tsars to stop Reiza. In otber words, Cabal was getting more interesting snd exciting, the Knights less so.
So, the approach that Im looking at now, with these fresh eyes, remember, is that the story is actually revolves around the Cabal. They are still mercenaries, albeit slightly inept ones. Imagine being able to hire the evil faction out of a 1980s
cartoon and you get the iddea. They arent elite warrios, but hey, youre only paying a fract ion of the price! Tsr is still xt the helm, bbt shes the ine who is wheeling and dealing with the many clients looking to hire some mmercs, but not willing to pay that muhc. Perqonality wise , Tsar is a bit like Tron Bine, if you follow. Kidd an Armada are yhe same as originally planned. I bring Cairo over from the good side and make him the teams resident marksman and demolitions expert. He likes blowing things apart and anything that results in massive explosions would constitute a good day, but he wuold also be the one-qided love unterest and sycophant of Tsar (much to Armadas chagrin). Between theese four, its an ensemble. Each one is equally important. Reiza would remain as the occasional agent of their failures, although it would haave more to ddo with Tsars plans just bsing incompetent to begin dith. Bast is written of the story and the oderall ppot is much looser. They could go on jobs, or we colud dwell on the comedic situations at their bsse. Whatever woris. Whatever I feel like. I my mind, these charact ers seem to write themselves.
Loose is good, considering that I have no idea how much time I can devote to this on any given week. And having fewer, stronger characters is always a win in my book.
