Destine. Part 16.

Суббота, 26 Мая 2007 г. 22:48 + в цитатник
Something unexpected happened the next moment. The door opened with crash and Destine broke in. Everyone stared at him: Jessie, Jay, Tommy and I with surprise, and the police men in disbelieve.
"You!" I smiled.
"Destine!" Jay winked.
"Madison!" Page explained.
"Robbie!" Jessie waved.
"That can't be right!" Stanley shouted.
We said all these phrases at once. Then, it was quiet for a few seconds. Destine looked at us attentively and then wondered, "Am I interrupting your chat?"
"Robert Madison!" Stanley cried again. "That's not possible! You can't be alive! I was the witness of the explosion! You and your brother were burnt!"
"I escaped," Destine said calmly.
"How???"
"I don't know," he winked. "I still can't believe that I'm alive. Nice to see you again, Stanley. Why did you move here?"
"I wanted to live in a peaceful place. But I don't believe my eyes... Is that really you?"
"You can be sure of it."
Douglas came to oneself at last.
"So, why are you here, Mr. Madison?"
Destine came closer. "I'm here as a witness. Did you accuse Thomas Page of joyriding? So, he was riding my Brother Frank's bike several times. I've lent it while Frank wasn't at home."

"Thanks for saving me, pal," Tommy said after a while.
"Not at all, friend," Destine answered. "And now I have to get ready for the party. Willya all come?"
"Sure!" we said at once.
"So, see you in four days!"
I still had questions to find out, so I followed Destine.
"What?" he asked.
"I wanted to know if you're really alive."
"Ya wanna know the truth? Let's take off."
We hid in the leaves of one high tree.
"So, I'm telling you the truth. But first you please answer to my question. D'ja see 'Father Ghost' film?"
"About a drowned man's phantom? Sure. Is your story the same?"
"Not really. I survived because I had put the deflector on. That unfixed device we were working on was able to kill the half of me, but not more. So here I am, half a man, half a ghost. Just like Danneh."
"How long ago had it happened?"
"Five years."
"So why everyone proclaimed you dead?"
"I went invisible and escaped from there. They considered me dead in LA, but the citizens of LB saw me alive. Poor Stanley, he had mind me dead too."
"Aren't you sad about your brother?"
"Matthew? Well, I remember him, but I am not really sad. I'm half ghost, you know. So here I am, careful, reserved and smart. Not able to love or to hate, but I still can like or dislike."
I was completely knocked out.
Destine jumped from the tree. I followed him. We walked along the beach keeping silent. I didn't know what to say, and he didn't want to say anything.
The summer sun drowned in the sea. Many small dots filled the sky.
"See Orion?" he asked.
I looked for my favorite constellation, but I couldn't find it.
"It's summer," he said to me. "You can see it in Australia now."
Now I really felt like saying something important to him. But he prevented this.
"And now I have to bed. I'm leaving. See you!"
"Good night, Robert," I whispered.
"Sleep tight..." he said back and left.
I felt like sleeping on the clouds. I took off and ended up floating in the starry sky.

To be continued.
