SQUAT, LUNGE, CURL
Stand with your arms at your sides and squat until your thighs are parallel to the ground (a). Push back up to the starting position. Then take a giant step forward with your left foot and lower your body until your left thigh is parallel to the ground (b). Push up onto your left leg and immediately curl your right heel toward your glutes (c). Return to start. That’s one rep. Repeat, stepping forward with your right foot. Continue alternating the sequence for 20 reps.

As President Obama explained his major immigration policy switch this afternoon
with a Rose Garden statement, he got into an unexpected verbal tussle with a reporter.
Obama seemed bewildered—and then downright angry—after Neil Munro, a reporter for the conservative web site Daily Caller interrupted his remarks by shouting a question about what the president's decision to halt deportations of some illegal immigrants could mean for American workers.
"Excuse me, sir," Obama told Munro after the reporter shouted a question in the middle of his speech. "It's not time for questions, sir."
"No, you have to take questions," Munro responded, according to a White House transcript of the exchange.
Obama shot back, "Not while I'm speaking."
Obama went on to complete his speech but not before jousting again with Munro.
As he neared the end of his remarks, Obama chastised Munro, telling him next he'd prefer he let him finish his statement before asking questions.
Munro again shouted questions at Obama.
"I didn't ask for an argument," Obama said. "I'm answering your question."
In a statement on the Daily Caller web site, Munro defended himself.
"I always go to the White House prepared with questions for our president. I timed the question believing the president was closing his remarks, because naturally I have no intention of interrupting the President of the United States. I know he rarely takes questions before walking away from the podium. When I asked the question as he finished his speech, he turned his back on the many reporters, and walked away while I and at least one other reporter asked questions."
Munro's bosses at the Daily Caller also defended Munro.
Tucker Carlson, Editor-in-Chief: "I don't remember Diane Sawyer scolding her colleague Sam Donaldson for heckling President Reagan. And she shouldn't have. A reporter's job is to ask questions and get answers. Our job is to find out what the federal government is up to. Politicians often don't want to tell us. A good reporter gets the story. Voters may soon have even more reason to ask Barack Obama why his policies have aided the Muslim Brotherhood.
An organization called Let Freedom Ring is working to buy air time for a new commercial highlighting both the Brotherhood’s radical agenda and Obama’s support for the terror-tied organization.
The advertisement claims the Muslim Brotherhood seeks to conquer Israel,
renew ties with Iran – a country “building nuclear weapons to slaughter the Israeli people”
– and even collapse the United States from within.
Is that the kind of group America’s president should be helping?
Citing a Politico news report, the ad asks,
“President Obama, you invited the Muslim Brotherhood to the White House?
Legitimizing a group that wants to undermine America and destroy Israel?”
Citing a CBS News report from March, the ad asks, “You sent them 1.5 billion of our dollars? Why, Mr. President? Why?”
The Muslim Brotherhood has gained strength throughout the Mideast, thanks to the power void left by the “Arab Spring” populist uprisings,
which have overthrown dictators in several nations, including Egypt and Libya, only to fill new government posts with Brotherhood members.
Obama has been a public supporter of the uprisings,
even providing direct assistance,
including weapons and finances, to the Libyan rebels.
But only this past week, including in Egypt and Libya, radical Muslim elements have turned the Arab Spring nations
into a hotbed for anti-American sentiment, including the violent and fatal storming of American embassies across the region.
Let Freedom Ring is launching its “Why, Mr. President, Why?” campaign,
hoping to raise funds to air the commercial in pivotal states leading up to the 2012 election.
Earlier this month, Let Freedom Ring announced a $7 million online advertising campaign
claiming the Obama administration terminated the pensions of nonunion workers at Delphi auto parts plants
while bailing out union workers’ pensions as part of the 2009 General Motors reorganization.

Barack Obama’s path to the White House began when he famously introduced himself to the world at the Democratic National Convention in 2004 as the product of an “improbable love” between a Kansas girl and a Kenyan goat herder.
Elsewhere, Obama has insisted that the love endured even when his father had to leave a wife and a 2-year-old child behind to pursue dreams at Harvard. In his autobiography, Obama indicated that if only Harvard would have offered enough money to support all three of them, as another school did, they could have stayed together.
Now, it appears, Obama is aligning his story with evidence WND has reported for many years that his mother, Ann Dunham, never lived with Barack Hussein Obama Sr. and left Hawaii with her son only weeks after he was born.
Obama’s campaign website posted a photograph and a quotation from a rally yesterday in Golden, Colo., in which Obama declared his mother was not married at the time of his birth.

Google-Egypt, Libya attacks part of Islam's 'war on West' |
The attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and the consulate in Benghazi, Libya, were planned by the Muslim Brotherhood and Salafist parties to punish the West for opposing Islam, according to former PLO operative and Muslim Brotherhood member-turned-terrorism analyst Walid Shoebat.
Shoebat says translations of Arabic documents show that radical Muslims are beginning an offensive against the West.
“The attacks on U.S. embassies had very little to do with the latest [anti-Muhammad] film and much more to do with the old story of the Muhammad cartoon and the failure of Muslims to prosecute internationally the culprits who drew the Muhammad cartoons. This will be another attempt to change the laws globally,” Shoebat said.
He said the attacks were a joint mission, and he cited an Arabic-language video to suggest that responsibility for the attacks could go all the way to the Egyptian leadership.
“This video brings us closer to answering that question. In fact, it not only points to the same attackers but possibly to Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi himself,” Shoebat said.

Shoebat highlighted an exchange in the video that starts at the 1:15 mark, in which gunmen in Libya say, “Don’t shoot, we were sent by Morsi.”
The U.S. State Department declined to make any further comment when contacted by WND.
Shoebat said other documents, translated from Arabic, also show that high-ranking members of the Salafist Nour Party and the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt planned the attacks to force constitutional changes in Egypt and concessions from the West.
The Nour Party issued a call to demonstrate in support of Wisam Abdul Waris of Dar Al-Hekma, or House of Wisdom, who has called for changes in the Egyptian constitution and international law that would make it illegal to criticize Islam, Shoebat said.
He said the Nour Party is the main culprit and Nour Party spokesman Nader Bakkar openly says members are after legal changes in Egypt and the world.
Bakkar has said his party aims for legal prosecution of anyone who harms Islam at home or abroad.
On his personal Facebook page, Bakkar referred to the role of the anti-Islam movie trailer, “Innocence of Muslims,” in changing laws, according to Shoebat:
After the movie that abused the prophet (peace be upon him), none will dare object to our determination to put an article in the constitution that criminalizes insults of the divine through portrayal or animation of the prophet, his companions, and all his house and mothers of the believers … this is the least we can do.

Rutherford Institute President John Whitehead said Egyptian activists are trying to make the U.S. legal system like the one in Egypt.
“Egypt has a Civil Strife Statute. In Egypt, if they don’t agree with what you have to say to the government, they can fine you or lock you up. We don’t have that in this country,” Whitehead said.
Whitehead called the protests against the odd film trailer, which is under 14 minutes, “personal grandstanding.”
“The key is the First Amendment is still alive,” he said. “The key to American freedom is protecting those you don’t agree with.”
Whitehead said the attackers want the U.S. to make concessions to the Muslims.
“There’s no doubt. Egypt would like the kind of laws here that they have and they want to impose them on the United States. We have the First Amendment that the Founding Fathers gave us to protect us from authoritarian regimes,” he said.
“Obama and his administration should not buckle,” Whitehead said.
Shoebat said the Nour Party clearly is responsible for the embassy attack in Cairo. Bakkar, who is scheduled to be in the United States in the coming days, should be questioned, he said.
“Make no mistake; the notion that these riots were spawned by an anti-Islam movie is completely and totally fallacious,” Shoebat said.
“It is not about the movie; it is about never letting a crisis go to waste,” he continued. “It is all about intimidating countries into implementing laws designed to extinguish free speech rights. The film is nothing more than a tool to be used to exploit politically correct inclinations.”
He said the attacks were intended to extract concessions from the U.S. and exalt militant Muslims.
The attacks were also part of a “support al-Qaida day,” he said, noting the Nour Party’s official Facebook page displays a photo of Osama bin Laden.
“To prove the point beyond a shadow of doubt that September the 11th was chosen without any connect to the film being released on that date, we can examine the sources as to when Egypt learned about the film,” Shoebat said.
On Wednesday, he noted, the Wall Street Journal reported that the video trailer that allegedly prompted the attacks had been scheduled to be shown in the church of controversial Florida pastor Terry Jones.
Shoebat said “the spark that elevated the video from the Internet’s backwater” appears to have been provided by Morris Sadek, an Egyptian Coptic activist living in the Washington, D.C., area.
Sadek has been an outspoken anti-Islamic activist in the U.S., where he runs a small group called the National American Coptic Assembly.
On Sept. 6, Sadek sent an email to journalists around the world promoting a Sept. 11 event held by Jones, who previously sparked deadly protests by burning a copy of the Quran.
In the email, Sadek included a link to the anti-Islam trailer.
Whitehead noted the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff even called Jones to ask him not to show the film clip at his church.
Shoebat added that a Dutch film was the original target of Nour Party ire.
Party spokesman Bakkar announced Sept. 9 that he was objecting to a Dutch film and that the Dutch were allowing Copts to move to Holland, Shoebat said.
Bakkar asserted the moves were an unacceptable interference in Egyptian affairs and an attempt to crack the unity of its citizens.
Bakkar stated through his personal Twitter account that the Dutch anti-Muslim film against Muhammad “could not pass unnoticed, without there being an adequate response.”
Shoebat said this adds to the argument that the Nour Party had failed to twist the arms of the Dutch, as well as the Germans and the English, to change their laws to respect Shariah.
So they then turned on the Americans and chose 9/11 for the date to protest, Shoebat said.
An Egyptian citizen in Cairo, whose identity has been withheld for security reasons, also said the American film would have gone largely unnoticed if the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood hadn’t brought it to the public’s attention.
“The past 48 hours have made the entire world aware of the existence of a movie that allegedly offends Muslims. Prior to the barbaric reaction of Muslims in Libya and Egypt, no one was aware of the existence of the movie,” the Cairo source said.
The source said bringing the American movie into the picture is an effort to insult America and to incite violence against Egypt’s Coptic community.
“It is now very clear that only the actions of the radical Islamists gave the film world wide publicity. The timing of the protests were planned to coincide with the anniversary of the 9/11 attack that killed thousands of Americans by radical Islamists,” the source said.
The Cairo resident said that to justify the attack on the U.S. Embassy, Egyptian media continued falsely reporting the film was made by Maurice Sadek, a Coptic Christian living in the U.S., along with Pastor Jones.
“The unfounded reporting was a willful act to promote incitement and resentment towards Egypt’s Coptic-Christian community,” the source said.
Shoebat said Egyptian military officers are part of the attempt to implicate the Copts.
On the Nour Party Facebook page, he noted, Egyptian officers posted messages of support, including photos of themselves in uniform, promising to join the demonstrations.
“Calls to terminate all the citizenships of Coptic Christians who live abroad litter the websites that support Nour Salfist party,” Shoebat said.
He noted a trend in Egypt for police officers to join “I am a cop with a beard,” an activist group that cooperated with the Voice of Wisdom and Nour Party to “express our anger” in front of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo.
The Facebook page has a photo calling Copts abroad “The Dogs of The Diaspora” and another photo featuring the chant, “Khaybar Khaybar O Jews, the army of Muhammad is coming for you,” Shoebat said.
Advertisements include posters encouraging demonstrations in front of the U.S. Embassy, he pointed out.
One ad states “Tuesday, on 9/11. More is planned on the 14th and this time in front of the Presidential Palace.”
Meanwhile, British Muslim cleric Anjem Choudary has responded to the anti-Islam trailer with a call for a demonstration in London to “defend the honor” of Muhammad.
“In light of the film ‘Innocence of Muslims’ insulting the final prophet, which is undoubtedly part of the global U.S. campaign to tarnish and spite Islam and Muslims, there will be a demonstration taking place tomorrow outside the American embassy in London to defend the honor of the messenger Muhammad,” Choudary said in his press release.
There also was speculation that Morsi will pursue legal action against the United States over the film.
Whitehead discounted that possibility.
“The First Amendment allows for individuals to have the freedom to express themselves, so there’s really no cause of action that can be taken,” he said.

Rosh Hashanah (Hebrew: ראש השנה, literally "head of the year"), is the Jewish New Year. Table tennis, also known as ping-pong, is a sport in which two or four players hit a lightweight, hollow ball back and forth using table tennis rackets. The game takes place on a hard table divided by a net. Except for the initial serve, players must allow a ball played toward them only one bounce on their side of the table and must return it so that it bounces on the opposite side. Points are scored when a player fails to return the ball within the rules. Play is fast and demands quick reactions. A skilled player can impart several varieties of spin to the ball, altering its trajectory and limiting an opponent's options to great advantage.
Table tennis is governed by the worldwide organization International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), founded in 1926. ITTF currently includes 217 member associations.[1] The table tennis official rules are specified in the ITTF handbook.[2] Since 1988, table tennis has been an Olympic sport,[3] with several event categories. In particular, from 1988 until 2004, these were: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles and women's doubles. Since 2008 a team event has been played instead of the doubles. In 2007, the governance for table tennis for persons with a disability was transferred from the International Paralympic Committee to the ITTF.[4]

The game originated as a sport in Britain during the 1880s, where it was played among the upper-class as an after-dinner parlour game.[5][6] It has been suggested that the game was first developed by British military officers in India or South Africa who brought it back with them.[7] A row of books were stood up along the center of the table as a net, two more books served as rackets and were used to continuously hit a golf-ball from one end of the table to the other. Alternatively table tennis was played with paddles made of cigar box lids and balls made of champagne corks. The popularity of the game led game manufacturers to sell the equipment commercially. Early rackets were often pieces of parchment stretched upon a frame, and the sound generated in play gave the game its first nicknames of "wiff-waff" and "ping-pong". A number of sources indicate that the game was first brought to the attention of Hamley's of Regent Street under the name "Gossima".[8][9] The name "ping-pong" was in wide use before British manufacturer J. Jaques & Son Ltd trademarked it in 1901. The name "ping-pong" then came to be used for the game played by the rather expensive Jaques's equipment, with other manufacturers calling it table tennis. A similar situation arose in the United States, where Jaques sold the rights to the "ping-pong" name to Parker Brothers.
The next major innovation was by James Gibb, a British enthusiast of table tennis, who discovered novelty celluloid balls on a trip to the US in 1901 and found them to be ideal for the game. This was followed by E.C. Goode who, in 1901, invented the modern version of the racket by fixing a sheet of pimpled, or stippled, rubber to the wooden blade. Table tennis was growing in popularity by 1901 to the extent that table tennis tournaments were being organized, books on table tennis were being written,[8] and an unofficial world championship was held in 1902. During the early 1900s, the game was banned in Russia because the rulers at the time believed that playing the game had an adverse effect on players' eyesight.[citation needed]
In 1921, the Table Tennis Association was founded in Britain, and the International Table Tennis Federation followed in 1926.[5][10] London hosted the first official World Championships in 1926. In 1933, the United States Table Tennis Association, now called USA Table Tennis, was formed.[5][11]
In the 1950s, rackets that used a rubber sheet combined with an underlying sponge layer changed the game dramatically,[5] introducing greater spin and speed.[12] These were introduced to Britain by sports goods manufacturer S.W. Hancock Ltd. The use of speed glue increased the spin and speed even further, resulting in changes to the equipment to "slow the game down". Table tennis was introduced as an Olympic sport at the Olympics in 1988.[13]
After the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, the International Table Tennis Federation instituted several rules changes aimed at making table tennis more viable as a televised spectator sport.[14] First, the older 38 mm balls were officially replaced by 40 mm balls in 2000.[8][15] This increased the ball's air resistance and effectively slowed down the game. By that time, players had begun increasing the thickness of the fast sponge layer on their rackets, which made the game excessively fast and difficult to watch on television. Second, the ITTF changed from a 21-point to an 11-point scoring system in 2001.[8] This was intended to make games more fast-paced and exciting. The ITTF also changed the rules on service to prevent a player from hiding the ball during service, in order to increase the average length of rallies and to reduce the server's advantage.
Variants of the sport have recently emerged. "Large-ball" table tennis uses a 44 mm ball, which slows down the game significantly. This has seen some acceptance by players who have a hard time with the extreme spins and speeds of the 40 mm game.
There is a move towards reviving the table tennis game that existed prior to the introduction of sponge rubber. "Hardbat" table tennis players reject the speed and spin of reversed sponge rubber, preferring the 1940–60s play style with no sponge and short-pimpled rubber. Defense is less difficult by decreasing the speed and eliminating any meaningful magnus effect of spin. Because hardbat killer shots are almost impossible to hit against a skilled player, hardbat matches focus on the strategic side of table tennis, requiring skillful maneuvering of the opponent before an attack can become successful.
The international rules specify that the game is played with a light 2.7 gram, 40 mm diameter ball.[16] The rules say that the ball shall bounce up 24–26 cm when dropped from a height of 30.5 cm on to a standard steel block thereby having a coefficient of restitution of 0.89 to 0.92. The 40 mm ball was introduced after the 2000 Olympic Games.[15] However, this created some controversy as the Chinese National Team argued that this was merely to give non-Chinese players a better chance of winning since the new type of balls has a slower speed, while at that time most Chinese players were playing with fast attack and smashes. A 40 mm table tennis ball is slower and spins less than the original 38 mm (1.5 inch) one. The ball is made of a high-bouncing air-filled celluloid or similar plastics material, colored white or orange, with a matte finish. The choice of ball color is made according to the table color and its surroundings. For example, a white ball is easier to see on a green or blue table than it is on a gray table. Stars on the ball indicate the quality of the ball. Three stars indicate that it is of the highest quality, and is used in official competition.
The table is 2.74 m (9 ft) long, 1.52 m (5 ft) wide, and 76 cm (30 inch) high with a Masonite (a type of hardboard) or similarly manufactured timber, layered with a smooth, low-friction coating.[17] The table or playing surface is divided into two halves by a 15.25 cm (6 inch) high net. An ITTF approved table surface must be in a green or blue color. Concrete tables with a steel net are sometimes available in public parks.[18]
Players are equipped with a laminated wooden racket covered with rubber on one or two sides depending on the grip of the player. The official ITTF term is "racket", though "bat" is common in Britain, and "paddle" in the U.S.
The wooden portion of the racket, often referred to as the "blade", commonly features anywhere between one and seven plies of wood, though cork, glass fiber, carbon fiber, aluminum fiber, and Kevlar are sometimes used. According to the ITTF regulations, at least 85% of the blade by thickness shall be of natural wood.[19] Common wood types include Balsa, Limba, and Cypress or "Hinoki," which is popular in Japan. The average size of the blade is about 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) long and 6 inches (15 cm) wide. Although the official restrictions only focus on the flatness and rigidness of the blade itself, these dimensions are optimal for most play styles.
Table tennis regulations allow different surfaces on each side of the racket.[20] Various types of surfaces provide various levels of spin or speed, and in some cases they nullify spin. For example, a player may have a rubber that provides much spin on one side of his racket, and one that provides no spin on the other. By flipping the racket in play, different types of returns are possible. To help a player distinguish between the rubber used by his opposing player, international rules specify that one side must be red while the other side must be black.[19] The player has the right to inspect his opponent's racket before a match to see the type of rubber used and what color it is. Despite high speed play and rapid exchanges, a player can see clearly what side of the racket was used to hit the ball. Current rules state that, unless damaged in play, the racket cannot be exchanged for another racket at any time during a match.[21]

Предлагая нашим читателям статью об Александре Городницком и судьбе документального фильма о нем (как это часто бывает, статья прислана нам одним из читателей; она размещена на ряде сайтов в интернете), хотим обратить внимание на то, что эта история напоминает историю с фильмом «Подстрочник» об известной переводчице Лилианне Лунгиной (мы писали об этом в № 10 «Рубежа» за прошлый год), к счастью, имевшей счастливый конец. Все то же самое – ни одному каналу, в том числе «Культуре», этот фильм не был нужен. Пробивался он к зрителю ни много ни мало одиннадцать лет. «Вы с ума сошли? пятнадцать серий? восемь часов чистого экранного времени – про какую-то пожилую интеллигентную тетку? ну и что, что Карлсона перевела... ну и что, что она интересно рассказывает... моя бабушка тоже рассказывала – заслушаешься...», – это из рассказа журналиста Сергея Пархоменко об отзывах телевизионного начальства, которые получал режиссер «Подстрочника» Олег Дорман, пытавшийся пристроить свой фильм, уже снятый.
Все повторяется. Что же за люди сидят на российских телеканалах, в том числе на канале «Культура»? Неужели и фильм об Александре Городницком будет пробиваться к зрителю так же долго, и затем его режиссер на вручении какой-нибудь тэфи вынужден будет отказаться от премии, как это сделал Олег Дорман, и сказать те же слова: «Среди членов Академии, ее жюри, учредителей и так далее – люди, из-за которых наш фильм одиннадцать лет не мог попасть к зрителям. Люди, которые презирают публику и которые сделали телевидение главным фактором нравственной и общественной катастрофы, произошедшей за десять последних лет … У них нет права давать награды фильму».
Несколько слов о стихотворении, которое «вызвало гнев как юдофобов, так и соплеменников Городницкого». Гнев и тех, и других вызвало заявление поэта о том, что он предпочитает «родству по крови» «родство по Слову», то есть, надо понимать, по мировоззрению, по нравственным ценностям. Тут стоит учесть, что многие эмансипированные евреи в Германии, в России, во Франции и в других странах изо всех сил пытались вступить в «родство по Слову», то есть ассимилироваться, стать органической частью интеллектуальной элиты своих стран. Но их в эту элиту не очень-то охотно принимали, а затем случился Холокост, когда Европа евреев, включая по самую макушку ассимилированных, отторгла и предала, и евреям ничего не осталось, кроме как искать «родства по крови». Да и сама история с фильмом о Городницком еще раз подтверждает, что в «родственники по слову» нас не спешат зачислить. Может, хватит набиваться?..
Увидим ли мы телесериал об Александре Городницком?
Как стало недавно известно, московский телеканал «Культура», сначала заказавший продюсеру А.И. Борисоглебскому большой телесериал о жизни и творчестве Александра Городницкого, после просмотра материала первых четырех (из 12) серий, отказался от своего заказа. И прекратил финансирование работ над этим сериалом. Продюсеру было объяснено, что в снятом материале немало упоминаний о еврейских корнях главного героя. То есть канал «Культура» повел себя наподобие ведомства Геббельса-Розенберга в довоенной Германии.
Главный редактор канала некто Приходько заявила, что... «никому не интересна эта еврейская история еврейского мальчика Городницкого». И работа над интереснейшим сериалом пока остановлена.

1 ДЕНЬ Выезд из Нью-Йорка в сопровождении гида.
По дороге - интересная информация по истории и достопримечательностям штатов, через которые пролегает путь в столицу США: Нью-Джерси, Пенсильвания, Дэлавер, Мэриленд, а также Вирджинии.
Интересна и живописна сама дорога, ее устройство и функционирование, инженерные решения: транспортные развязки, мосты, тоннели, в том числе знаменитый тоннель, пролегающий по дну Чизапикского залива.
По приезде в Вашингтон - начало обзорной экскурсии по городу. Останавливаемся у самых знаменитых зданий столицы. Величественный Капитолий - место работы Конгресса США и архитектурный комплекс Капитолийского холма с Библиотекой Конгресса. Белый дом - резиденция Президента страны с окружающими его памятниками и проспектами. Посольская дорога - Embassy Row, где расположены посольства иностранных государств.
Перерывом на ланч заканчивается первая половина напряженного экскурсионного дня. Группа располагается в гостинице на непродолжительный отдых.
Вашингтон особенно красив в вечернем наряде. Вечером группа выезжает на экскурсию "Вашингтон в вечерних огнях". Искуссно подсвечены мемориалы Линкольна, Джефферсона, Рузвельта, Корейский и Вьетнамский Мемориалы. Отраженный в воде шпиль Мемориала Джоржа Вашингтона - незабываемое зрелище. Во время вечерней экскурсии проезжаем по живому, гуляющему Джоржтауну, а также осматриваем Кеннеди-Центр исполнительских искусств - также своеобразный мемориал.
2 ДЕНЬ После завтрака группа покидает гостиницу и продолжает знакомство с городом.
Очень интересно посещение Арлингтонского мемориального кладбища, наблюдение торжественной церемонии смены почетного караула у Могилы Неизвестного Солдата, посещение могилы президента Кеннеди, осмотр памятников и мемориалов на территории кладбища.
Знакомство с Вашингтоном было бы не полным без знакомства с основными музеями - уникальными коллекциями Национальной Картинной галлереи и Музеея космонавтики - самого посещаемого музея мира.
Свободное время предоставляется туристам провести на Капитолийском Молу (Проспекте) - главном проспекте города.

Plantains are a member of the banana family. They are a starchy, low in sugar variety that is cooked before serving as it is unsuitable raw. It is used in many savory dishes somewhat like a potato would be used and is very popular in Western Africa and the Caribbean countries. It is usually fried or baked.
Plantains are native to India and are grown most widely in tropical climates. Plantains are sometimes referred to as the pasta and potatoes of the Caribbean. Sold in the fresh produce section of the supermarket, they usually resemble green bananas but ripe plantains may be black in color. This vegetable-banana can be eaten and tastes different at every stage of development. The interior color of the fruit will remain creamy, yellowish or lightly pink. When the peel is green to yellow, the flavor of the flesh is bland and its texture is starchy. As the peel changes to brown or black, it has a sweeter flavor and more of a banana aroma, but still keeps a firm shape when cooked.
The plantain averages about 65% moisture content and the banana averages about 83% moisture content. Since hydrolysis, the process by which starches are converted to sugars, acts fastest in fruit of higher moisture content it converts starches to sugars faster in bananas than it does in plantains. A banana is ready to eat when the skin is yellow whereas a plantain is not ready to eat "out of hand" until hydrolysis has progressed to the point where the skin is almost black.
Plantains grow best in areas with constant warm temperatures and protection from strong winds. They have been grown in scattered locations throughout Florida since the 16th century. Because of the occasional freezes, Florida is considered a marginal area for plantain production. They are available year round in the supermarket.

Question: I always walk by the plantains at the grocery store, and I love foods with plantains when I eat out. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to use them or how to incorporate them into a meal and the last time I attempted to cook a plantain ended in failure. How should plantains be prepared?
Answer: I too love plantains, and they’re easy to prepare if you know how to shop for them. If you pick out firm green-ish plantains like these:
you can use them as a starch in stews and soups, much like you would a potato. If you pick out soft, yellow and black plantains like these:
you can make fried or sweet plantains (as seen in the top picture), which is the kind you’ve probably had at restaurants, and the kind I find most delicious.
Fried Plantains
2 large yellow/black plantains, medium-soft to the touch
2 Tbsp canola oil
Kosher salt
Heat 1 Tbsp oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Peel plantains by scoring the peel with a small knife and cutting all the way down, then remove the plantain and slice into thick diagonal slices. Gently place plantain slices in skillet in a single layer and sprinkle generously with salt (may have to cook in 2 batches, so save remaining Tbsp oil in case). Let cook for 2-3 minutes (until light brown crust forms) then flip, sprinkle again with salt, and cook another 2-3 minutes. Remove to a paper-towel to drain, then serve as a side dish. Delicious alongside beans, rice, and salad; or, drizzle with honey and serve as dessert.

Разновидностей их - великое множество. Чем они отличаются друг от друга? Рассказывает Игорь СОКОЛЬСКИЙ, кандидат фармацевтических наук, специалист по фитохимии.
- Орехи - один из самых «древних» продуктов, входящий в рацион людей на протяжении многих веков. И неудивительно. Помимо того что эти плоды вкусны и питательны (их калорийность - от 500 до 700 ккал на 100 граммов), регулярное употребление (даже в умеренном количестве) уменьшает риск возникновения и обострения сердечно-сосудистых заболеваний, нормализует уровень холестерина и сахара в крови, способствует обновлению клеток органов и тканей. Объясняется это богатым витаминным (A, Е, С, группы B ( B₁, В₂, В₅, В₆, В₉), К, РР) и минеральным (более 20 макро- и микроэлементов) составом плодов.
Теперь о недостатках. Орехи - пища тяжёлая, плохо усваиваются организмом. Поэтому детям лакомиться ими можно только с 5-6 лет. Они также считаются одним из самых аллергенных продуктов.
Конечно, у каждого вида есть своя специфика, но она не столь существенна, чтобы говорить о явных преимуществах одних орехов перед другими. Поэтому, если у вас нет денег на дорогие, купите дешёвые.
