I go to this boot camp-style class sometimes at a gym near my apartment. It’s one of those classes where a coach stands there and yells at you to do more pushups and squats until you think you’re going to puke. Then you go home and struggle to sit on a toilet for the next three days.

It’s great. I love it. I never miss a week.

Today, as happens many mornings, a couple of people, in between exercises, ran over to the wall to pick up their phones and check… well, I don’t know what the fuck they could have been checking. Email? Instagram? Snapchatting their sweat beads so everyone could see? I don’t know.

The point is they were on their phones.

As the founder of the New Elderly Movement, Hinohara encourages others to live a long and happy life - a quest in which no role model is better than the doctor himself. Nearly 10 years ago, he was interviewed, and gave his advice for a long and healthy life. Dr. Shigeaki Hinohara's main points for a long and happy life are:

Two friends who grew old together made a deal that whoever died first would come back and inform the other how life after death was. Their biggest fear was that there was no after life at all.

After a long life, Dan was the first to die. Benny mourned him, and waited for him to come and visit.

 True to his word, two months later, as Benny was sleeping, the voice of Dan appeared in his head.

"Benny...Benny..."
"My gosh... Is that you, Dan?"
"Yes, I've come back like we agreed."
"That's wonderful!  What's it like?"

"Well, I get up in the morning, I have intercourse. I have breakfast and then it's off to the golf course. I have intercourse again, bathe in the warm sun and then have intercourse a couple more times... then I have lunch (keeping healthy, lots of greens).

Адаптивная гимнастика для пожилых Павла Смолянского

Каждый понедельник на АиФ Здоровье - новый комплекс упражнений для красоты и здоровья. На этой неделе – 21 упражнение для людей среднего и старшего возраста.

 

Задача гимнастики – адаптировать организм к повседневным нагрузкам, отрегулировать работу сердечно-сосудистой, вегетативной, нервно-мышечной систем, укрепить опорно-двигательный аппарат, создать хорошее настроение людям среднего и старшего возраста.

Все упражнения надо выполнять с улыбкой и под музыку.

Дыхательное упражнение.

Исходное положение (и. п.) – стоя, ноги на ширине плеч, руки свободно опущены. Поднимаем руки через стороны вверх, вдыхаем носом, руки опускаем – выдыхаем ртом. Работает диафрагма, лопатки сводятся и разводятся. Упражнение повторяем 3 раза. Каждый раз, вставая со стула, мы снова делаем это упражнение. Выполняем с улыбкой и не напрягаемся.

 

1. Наклоны головой

И. п. – стоя, ноги чуть шире плеч, руки на поясе. Наклоняем голову влево, вправо, вниз, влево, вправо, вниз. Людям среднего и пожилого возраста не рекомендуется откидывать голову назад. В зависимости от возраста можно выполнить от 5 до 7 повторений этого упражнения.

Да что мы такое говорим?! Какие пять минут? Как ты их сумеешь оторвать от своей насыщенной биографии и потратить на такое занудство, как, тьфу-тьфу-тьфу, здоровый образ жизни?! Нет, на любое из нижеприведенных оздоровительных мероприятий тебе понадобится меньше пяти минут — в этом-то вся и прелесть!

Некоторые оптимисты-физ­куль­турники в журналах, подобных нашему, рекомендуют читателям не пользоваться лифтом, а всегда подниматься на нужный этаж дедовским методом — с помощью мышц ног и пресса, которые получают таким образом замечательную нагрузку, не говоря уж о том, какое это восхитительное упражнение для сердечно-сосудистой системы. Но, конечно, это утопия. Никакие призы в виде идеальных фигур и здорового сердца не заставят нормального человека ежедневно ползать вверх по лестнице. Потому что это долго, скучно и, честно говоря, утомительно. Но мало кто знает, что сбегать вниз по лестнице почти так же полезно: нагрузка на мышцы-сосуды в этом случае идет очень приличная. А самое главное — делать это куда легче и веселее. Кстати, если иногда спускаться по ступенькам спиной вперед, то можно не только расшибить себе затылок и заслужить у соседей репутацию гражданина со странностями, но и очень неплохо нагрузить обычно полубездействующие мышцы задней поверхности бедра и поясницы.

Mr. Rose, a researcher, an inventor-entrepreneur and the author of “Enchanted Objects: Design, Human Desire and the Internet of Things,” and his colleagues have been road-testing weighted blankets to induce a swaddling sensation and listening to recordings of Icelandic fairy tales — all research into an ideal sleep environment that may culminate in a nap pod, or, as he said, “some new furniture form.”

“For me, it’s a swinging bed on a screened porch in northwestern Wisconsin,” he said. “You can hear the loons and the wind through the fir trees, and there’s the weight of 10 blankets on top of me because it’s a cold night. We’re trying a bunch of interventions.”

Do you sometimes wake up with stiff back muscles? Are certain chairs causing you pain? A sore back is a problem most people are forced to deal with at one time or another, unless they keep it strong and flexible. The following stretches come from the world of yoga, and are very effective in strengthening the lower back, as well as relieving pain in that area, the thigh muscles, knees, and shoulders.
 
1. The Cobra 
This pose improves the flexibility of the spine and stretches the chest, shoulders, and stomach.
• Lie on your stomach and put your hands forward
• Breathe in and slowly slide your hands towards your chest, while raising it and arching your back. Keep your thighs on the ground and your elbows should be slightly bent.
• Push your shoulders as far away from your ears as you can and stretch your neck. Look forward or lower your head back to maximize the stretch.
• Hold this pose for the duration of 5 long breaths, and finally exhale while you slowly lower yourself back onto the mat.
