Madonna accused of child trafficking

Пятница, 20 Января 2023 г. 18:51 + в цитатник
Madonna is being accused of human trafficking by the Ethiopian World Federation (EWF). This is in response to Madonna adopting 4 children from Malawi.

  • The EWF is asking the Malawi govenrment to restrict Madonna's access to Africa and African children until an investigation has taken place into their allegations that Madonna is engaged in child trafficking, sex exploitation, sexual slavery, adoption reversal, threats of coercion, fraud, deception, and abuse of power

  • They also think that Madonna's same-sex experiences should have been disclosed during her adoptions (and that by not highlighting this, she defrauded the Malawi authorities)

  • They are shook by the SEX book (who isn't)

  • The EWF claim that Madonna opened her Raising Malawi orphanage in 2006 was a front for using Malawi kids for sexual and social experiments

  • They also claim Madonna's adopted son David Banda is being abused because he wears feminine-gendered clothes and accessories

Google is laying off 12,000 employees

Пятница, 20 Января 2023 г. 17:37 + в цитатник

Our CEO sent the following email to Google employees earlier today. https://t.co/d90vMOfnkj

— Google Communications (@Google_Comms) January 20, 2023

- Google is reducing their workforce by ~12,000 employees.
- They increased their workforce during the pandemic, but the demand has decreased.
- Employees shall feel free to work from home today.
- Two days ago, Microsoft announced that they are laying off 10,000 employees.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO

A difficult decision to set us up for the future

Sundar (CEO of Google) sent the following email to Google employees earlier today.

Googlers,

I have some difficult news to share. We’ve decided to reduce our workforce by approximately 12,000 roles. We’ve already sent a separate email to employees in the US who are affected. In other countries, this process will take longer due to local laws and practices.

This will mean saying goodbye to some incredibly talented people we worked hard to hire and have loved working with. I’m deeply sorry for that. The fact that these changes will impact the lives of Googlers weighs heavily on me, and I take full responsibility for the decisions that led us here.

Over the past two years we’ve seen periods of dramatic growth. To match and fuel that growth, we hired for a different economic reality than the one we face today.

I am confident about the huge opportunity in front of us thanks to the strength of our mission, the value of our products and services, and our early investments in AI. To fully capture it, we’ll need to make tough choices. So, we’ve undertaken a rigorous review across product areas and functions to ensure that our people and roles are aligned with our highest priorities as a company. The roles we’re eliminating reflect the outcome of that review. They cut across Alphabet, product areas, functions, levels and regions.

To the Googlers who are leaving us: Thank you for working so hard to help people and businesses everywhere. Your contributions have been invaluable and we are grateful for them.

While this transition won’t be easy, we’re going to support employees as they look for their next opportunity.

In the US:

We’ll pay employees during the full notification period (minimum 60 days).
We’ll also offer a severance package starting at 16 weeks salary plus two weeks for every additional year at Google, and accelerate at least 16 weeks of GSU vesting.
We’ll pay 2022 bonuses and remaining vacation time.
We’ll be offering 6 months of healthcare, job placement services, and immigration support for those affected.
Outside the US, we’ll support employees in line with local practices.
As an almost 25-year-old company, we’re bound to go through difficult economic cycles. These are important moments to sharpen our focus, reengineer our cost base, and direct our talent and capital to our highest priorities.

Being constrained in some areas allows us to bet big on others. Pivoting the company to be AI-first years ago led to groundbreaking advances across our businesses and the whole industry.

Thanks to those early investments, Google’s products are better than ever. And we’re getting ready to share some entirely new experiences for users, developers and businesses, too. We have a substantial opportunity in front of us with AI across our products and are prepared to approach it boldly and responsibly.

All this work is a continuation of the “healthy disregard for the impossible” that’s been core to our culture from the beginning. When I look around Google today, I see that same spirit and energy driving our efforts. That’s why I remain optimistic about our ability to deliver on our mission, even on our toughest days. Today is certainly one of them.

I’m sure you have many questions about how we’ll move forward. We’ll be organizing a town hall on Monday. Check your calendar for details. Until then, please take good care of yourselves as you absorb this difficult news. As part of that, if you are just starting your work day, please feel free to work from home today.

- Sundar

A Depeche Mode and Pedro Pascal combo?? It's more likely than you think!!

The end of the pilot episode of The Last of Us featured Depeche Mode's dark synth-rock classic "Never Let Me Down Again". The song was used to served as an indication of strife and dark times within the show's universe within the final scene, and inspired millions of viewers to play the song themselves.

As a result, according to Luminate, the official on-demand U.S. streams of the song increased by 220.5% overnight, going from 26,000 on the day of the premiere to 83,000 the following day.

I didn’t do it out of fear and anxiety. Don’t ever let fear rule your life. I have long-standing injuries from that. I wish I had listened to my dad. He said, ‘You’re going to want to do this.’ We’re not the ‘suing family,’ but when you’re practically killed…”

The 2012 incident occurred while she was acting in a recurring role of Season 4 of the series. She was hospitalized after receiving a “seven-inch skull fracture, a hairline fracture, cracked teeth and ribs” after falling lighting equipment struck her.

“I heard, like, a flagpole sound. I literally heard, ‘We’re losing the light.’ I heard, ‘Action.’ And I woke up at Bellevue [Hospital],

Hollywood Can Stop Underestimating Niecy Nash-Betts Now

Четверг, 19 Января 2023 г. 22:04 + в цитатник

The sky’s the limit for the award-winning Niecy Nash-Betts—it just took Hollywood some time to realize it. https://t.co/PyWliWsmKh

— VANITY FAIR (@VanityFair) January 17, 2023
Niecy Nash-Betts recently won a Critic's Choice Award for her role in Netflix's Dahmer as Glenda Cleveland, the neighbor of Jeffrey Dahmer whom police refused to listen to. She gave this interview beforehand.

On working with Ryan Murphy: "I never feel reluctant when it comes to Ryan. And it was interesting because... Ryan and I had a conversation very early on when the world found out about Jessica and me being married, and I told him some of the things that I was told and he said, 'As long as I’m alive, you’ll have a job. You don’t worry about that.' That’s what the man told me. Now because we have been so connected, he called and said, 'Hey, I have something that I really want you to do,' I said, 'Okay.' There was no, What is it? Can I think about it? I just said, Okay, you got it. 'Oh, by the way, what is it?'"

On playing Glenda Cleveland: "I’m playing a real person—then you realize the weight of it because this woman’s voice has gone unheard. And for me, I have to find a place where every character I play and myself intersect. In order for me to ground it, I’ve gotta find something that we have in common. You say, Oh, I’ve been there before. I remember the time that I said this or that, and nobody believed me or nobody listened. I understand the point of this pain, but hers went on and on and on. And then not only that; she was not believed. The respect and the honor that you have to have to get it right is now on. So it was probably the most difficult job I’ve ever had to date."

On the show's controversy: "Conversation is good. I think it invites dialogue, but I also think that were it not for this project, there are so many people who just would’ve been nameless and faceless while everybody knew who Jeffrey Dahmer was and what he did. Had you ever heard the name Glenda Cleveland before this? ... Her having her story told or her side of things told. Let’s talk about the families and unpack how it affected them. you know? So the conversation is alright because, at the end of the day, we’re standing in the light of the truth being told. You don’t have to like it, but it wasn’t a lie."

Husband of romance author who faked her own suicide says it was his idea

Четверг, 19 Января 2023 г. 20:29 + в цитатник
Follow up to this post

Recap/background:
Self-published romance writer Susan Meachen faked her suicide in 2020 and then popped back up on social media this month saying, "Let the fun begin." She admitted that she had continued posting in her Facebook group using a fake name while she was allegedly dead. A few days after her return to Facebook, there was an interview with her at Upstream Reviews which included quotes that were reposted on social media.

Meachen has since denied that she spoke with Upstream Reviews or that she said any of the things that were attributed to her in the interview, so UR has removed the Q&A from the original post. Earlier this week, the New York Times interviewed Meachen and her husband Troy, who claims that it was his idea for her to fake her death.

A Facebook post in 2020 announced the death of Susan Meachen, a romance novel author. But she wasn’t dead.

Last week, she announced that she was back. “Let the fun begin,” she wrote. She has faced questions from police about faking her own suicide. https://t.co/hjIwyqOSva

— The New York Times (@nytimes) January 16, 2023

Troy said that she was addicted to the online romance community, and Susan said it was hard for her to "differentiate between book world and the real world." Troy said she would get "really brutal" responses to her work from fellow authors and she would sometimes "talk like a character from a book, like she was the individual she was writing." Troy believed that the online environment triggered the effects of Susan's bipolar disorder (Susan's psychiatrist confirmed the bipolar diagnosis to the NYT).

On September 10, 2020, while Troy was away, their 22-year-old daughter found her mother semiconscious after overdosing on Xanax. Afterward, Troy told his daughter to announce Susan's death. "I told them that she is dead to the indie world, the internet, because we had to stop her, period. Even to this day, I'll take 100 percent of the blame, the accolades, whatever you want to call it." Susan told the NYT that the decision to come back was something she thought about for over a year.

One of the quotes from the ~fake Upstream Reviews interview was Meachen's flippant response regarding the money that people had donated to the numerous fundraisers set up to help her family pay for funeral costs and other expenses. Her impersonator said that people "chose to donate" and that "it doesn't magically become a loan because they regret it now." This week she told the New York Times: "From a legal standpoint, I did nothing wrong. Morally, I might have done something wrong. But legally, there’s nothing wrong."

Not everyone agrees with her. Author Sai Marie Johnson, who edited Meachen’s final book for free after learning she had “died,” has filed a report with the FBI’s cybercrimes unit. Author Candace Adams, who donated money for Susan's funeral expenses, said she has contacted the Benton Police Department in Tennessee: "It's fraud, basically. We are working on wire fraud and on collecting money under false pretenses because we gave money for a funeral and there was no funeral."

Jennifer Lopez says she was to participate in Madonna kiss performance

Jennifer Lopez confirms to E News! that she was supposed to perform at the 2003 VMAs with Madonna and Britney Spears. pic.twitter.com/12OxU45hY3

— Jennifer Lopez Charts (@JLoCharts) January 17, 2023

The boricua celebrity has said that she was originally going to perform with Madonna and Britney Spears on the infamous MTV performance, but due to schedule conflicts as she was filming in Canada, she was substituted with Christina Aguilera.

— Juan Sanguino (@juanlsanguino) January 18, 2023

However, some users are claiming this is all lies, as Madonna hates her guts since Lopez talked badly about her in an interview, and when they both coincided at a Donatella Versace party, Madonna didn’t even acknowledged her.
