Издательство HarperCollins объявило о включении в свои толковые словари английского языка нового слова "meh", выражающего крайнюю степень скуки и отсутствия интереса. Новое слово появится в юбилейном, тридцатом издании словаря, запланированном к публикации на 2009 год.

Популярностью это слово обязано сериалу "Симпсоны". В одной из серий мультфильма его герои Барт и Лиза постоянно повторяют "meh" в ответ на предложения их отца Гомера Симпсона о вариантах проведения досуга. Несмотря на то, что история происхождения этого слова неясна, известно, что оно употреблялось и раньше, но только в Америке и Канаде.
"Meh" - произносится как "мэ-э" и означает полнейшее отсутствие интереса и энтузиазма. В новом издании Collins English Dictionary за словом закреплено употребление как в качестве междометия, так и в качестве прилагательного.
Слово "meh" было выбрано сотрудниками издательства по итогам конкурса: обычные люди присылают в издательство различные новые слова, используемые в разговорной речи, но не зафиксированные в словарях.
