in the future the drugs will become much more than they are today
forget about virtual reality in the sense you think of it today

I believe the biochemistry and mankind's knowledge of a human body and brain will achieve an inconceivable level, that will allow creating harmless substances capable of a cyclic self-resynthesis in the body.
these drugs will not bring any weariness or inhibition of the receptors (at least they should not) I think the time of sleep will be used to rebuild them and restore the tone
even today the drug users are choosing their drugs based on the hallucinogenic effects they are providing
in the future they will be able to choose or order to design for them a custom-made VR-drug, which will stimulate their brain to work in a desired mode, inducing a unique reality-perception
this is John. he likes nature, green plants. that's why he lives in a rain-forest world
the green sprouts twine the walls in the city, flowers bloom on his desk, he makes his way through the lianas, which are in fact the electricity cords
his wife sees the world in the same way
his colleague Truth leaves in the world of elves, flying flames, magic lights, world where the sun is green and the thunderstorms are incredibly beautiful with the lightnings of all the colors of the rainbow and the clouds streaming under the sharp angles to the ground
some of their colleagues might live in the medieval ages, or in some Asian style environment, they might choose the dark gothic world or a paradise
the catch is they all work in the same company. the drugs alter your reality perception but not your ability to think and work

if person becomes tired of a chosen world - he can change it
the drugs is washed out of the body and a new one's injected, just need to choose
