A Secret of Love...

My wife got sick. She was constantly nervous because of problems at work, personal life, her failures and problems with children. She has lost 30 pounds and weighted about 90 pounds in her 35 years. She got very skinny, was constantly crying. She was not happy woman. She had suffered from continuing headaches, heart pain and jammed nerves in her back and ribs. She did not sleep well, falling asleep only in the morning; got tired very quickly during the day. Our relationship was on the verge of brake up. Her beauty was leaving her somewhere, she had bags under her eyes, she was poking her head, and stopped take care of herself. She refused shoot the films and rejected any role. I lost hope and thought that we’ll get divorced soon… But then I decided to act. After all I’ve got the most beautiful woman on the earth. She is the ideal of more than half of men and women on earth, and I was the one allowed to fall asleep next to her and to hug her shoulders. I began to pepper her with flowers, kisses and compliments. I surprised her and pleased every minute. I gave her lots of gifts and lived just for her. I spoke in public only about her. I incorporated all themes in her direction. I praised her in front of her own and our mutual friends. You won’t  believe, but she has blossomed. She became even better than before. She gained weight, was no longer nervous and she loved me even more than ever. I had no clue that she CAN love that much.

And then I realized one thing: the woman is the reflection of her man.

If you love her to the point of madness, she will become it.

Jeans and Levi Strauss

Like many other American cities, San Francisco has got some unusual tourist attractions. For example, 250 Valencia Street, the home of the Levi Strauss company.

The company first started making jeans in San Francisco in 1853. After the 1906 earthquake, they had to move into their present building.

Levi Strauss was born in Buttenheim, Bavaria. He emigrated to the United States in 1847 when he was 18. When the gold rush began, Levi Strauss went to California.

He planned to start a business in California with a relative. They wanted to open a shop selling material. Unfortunately, a lot of the material was stolen on the way. And Levi Strauss  had to sell some of it because he was so poor. The business was not successful. So Levi Strauss started to dig for gold. The other workers laughed at the holes in Levi Strauss´s trousers. So he took some tent canvas to a tailor´s and asked him to make him a pair of trousers. Soon everybody wanted to have canvas trousers.

Levi Strauss was in business again. He had found his own kind of gold.At first his jeans were word by gold diggers and cowboys and not by just about everybody until 1954 when the young American actor, James Dean, wore jeans in the famous film East of Eden

Just think, if the other gold diggers hadn´t laughed at Levi Strauss, would you be wearing jeans today?

Somerset Maugham, "The man with a scar"

, . " ". Advanced. ! !

It was on account of the scar that I first noticed him, for it ran, broad and red, from his temple to his chin. This scar spoke of a terrible wound and I wondered whether it had been caused by a sabre or by a fragment of shell. It was unexpected on that round, fat and good-humoured face. He had small features and his face went oddly with his large and fat body. He was a powerful man of more than common height. I never saw him in anything, but a very shabby grey suit, a khaki shirt and an old sombrero. He was far from clean. He used to come into the Palace Hotel at Guatemala City every day at cocktail time and tried to sell lottery tickets. I never saw anyone buy, but now and then I saw him offered a drink. He never refused it. He walked among the tables, pausing at each table, with a little smile offered the lottery tickets and when no notice was taken of him with the same smile passed on. I think he was the most part a little drunk.

What's the ideal number of friends?

, 29 2012 . 12:48 +

The more friends you have, the more you earn, says a study. But modern life can allow little time to maintain meaningful relationships, so what's the optimum number of friends?
A study of 10,000 US students over a period of 35 years suggests the wealthiest people are those that had the most friends at school. Each extra schoolfriend added 2% to the salary. The researchers said this was because the workplace is a social setting and those with the best social skills prosper in management and teamwork.
The average number of friends is about 150, says leading anthropologist Robin Dunbar. "It's the number of people that you know as persons and you know how they fit into your social world and they know how you fit into theirs." They usually consist of an inner circle of five "core" people and an additional layer of 10, he says.
