This magnificent naturalistic painting of Bearded White & Purple Irises, and buds growing on short side branches on each stem, is signed by the prominent Pickard Artist Edward Stafford Challinor (aka ‘E. Challinor’). The poppy of wartime remembrance is the red corn poppy because it is one of the only plants that can grow on disturbed soil, which was abundant on battlefields due to intensive shelling. When the plant blossomed, the battlefield was coloured blood red, thus the plant became a symbol for the dead World War I soldiers who lay on the otherwise barren battlegrounds. In fact, artificial versions of this poppy are worn to commemorate the sacrifice of veterans and civilians in World War I and other wars (during the weeks preceding Veterans Day) and has been adopted as a symbol by The Royal British Legion in their Poppy Appeal.1900

The artist of this rare & large porcelain Chop Plate paints a very naturalistic scene: Holding the nuts in place on the branch with their feet, these noisy show birds look like they are about to crack open acorns by hammering them with their lower jaws. This early 20th century artist would have been quite surprised to learn that 100 years later paleoecologist would discovered that Blue Jays are actually a very vital link to the ecosystem. Absolutely Breathtaking Hand Painted Naturalistic Garden Scene by the well known French Artist ‘Jean’. Арка на площади Карусели - одна из трёх триумфальных арок, построенных для Триумфального Пути Наполеона в Париже. Построена в 1806 - 1808 годах по образцу Арки Константина в Риме. Арку украсили золочёными бронзовыми конями, взятыми Наполеоном с площади Святого Марка в Венеции. После битвы при Ватерлоо в 1815 году коней вернули обратно. В 1828 году на их место поставили реплики. Этими событиями и определается датировка тарелки.
