Panorama photographed on the main road in Thusis. Thusis lies at the northern entrance to the spectacular Viamala Gorge on the Hinterrhein River. The town in the canton of Graubunden, Switzerland, is the starting point of the Albula Railway, many pass roads and excursions to the Heinzerberg and Domleschg area with its many castles. Thusis had to be partially rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1845. The buildings, built in an elegant style influenced by neighbouring Italy, bear witness to the wealth and self-confidence of the time. For until the opening of the Gotthard Railway in 1882 and the completion of the Albula Railway in 1903, Thusis was an important station for the transport of goods and passengers from southern Germany to Italy by horse-drawn carriages and carts. The Viamala Gorge, 4 km south of Thusis, is the largest and most impressive gorge in the canton of Graubunden. Rock walls up to 300 metres high flank the gorge, which is only a few metres wide in places. Even in Roman times, the Viamala was part of important north-south routes that were very dangerous for humans and animals. Today, the safe descent via 321 steps is open from April to November. Remains of Roman roads can be explored. Several bridges span the narrow gorge at a height of 70 metres, providing impressive views. With its varied landscape and the northern starting point for the long-distance hike on the Via Spluga over the Spl"ugen Pass to Chiavenna in Italy, Thusis is becoming increasingly popular with tourists, who offer a network of trails stretching over 350 km to both hikers and cyclists. Os edif'icios, constru'idos num estilo elegante influenciado pela vizinha It'alia, testemunham a riqueza e a autoconfianca da 'epoca. Porque, at'e `a abertura da Ferrovia Gotthard em 1882 e `a conclus~ao da Ferrovia Albula em 1903, Thusis foi uma importante estac~ao para transporte de mercadorias e passageiros do sul da Alemanha para It'alia em carrocas e carros puxados por cavalos. O Desfiladeiro Viamala, a 4 km a sul de Thusis, 'e o maior e mais impressionante desfiladeiro do Cant~ao dos Graubunden. Paredes rochosas com at'e 300 metros de altura ladeiam o desfiladeiro, que tem apenas alguns metros de largura em alguns pontos. J'a na 'epoca romana, a Viamala fazia parte de importantes rotas norte-sul com grande risco para humanos e animais. Hoje, a descida segura atrav'es de 321 degraus est'a aberta de abril a novembro. Restos de estradas romanas podem ser explorados. V'arias pontes atravessam a estreita ravina a uma altura de 70 metros, proporcionando vistas impressionantes. Com paisagem muito variada, e ponto de partida a norte para a caminhada de longa dist^ancia na Via Spluga, passando pela passagem de Spl"ugen, at'e Chiavenna, em It'alia, Thusis, est'a a tornar-se cada vez mais popular entre os turistas, aos quais oferece, caminhantes e ciclistas, uma rede de trilhos que se estende por 350 km. The Solis Viaduct is located in Solis, Alvaschein, in the heart of Parc Ela in the canton of Graub"unden, Switzerland. With its eleven ornate limestone arches spanning the rugged Schinschlucht and the Albula River flowing far below. The main arch has a span of 42 metres, it is the highest bridge on the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) and also has the largest span of all bridge structures on the Albula line. It was built between 1901 and 1903, and opened on 27 June 1903. It is 164 metres long and crosses the Albula River at an altitude of 89 metres. The Solis Viaduct is part of the Rhaetian Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Rhaetian Railway, between Thusis and Tirano in Italy, is a marvel of railway engineering. It operates on a historic line, but has modern features such as electrification and Wi-Fi, integrating seamlessly into the daily transport network. It is not just an artifact preserved in the museum to be seen as it was in the past. It is a living and functioning part of the infrastructure, serving passengers and tourists daily. O Viaduto Solis faz parte da Ferrovia R'etica, Patrim'onio Mundial da UNESCO. A Ferrovia R'etica, entre Thusis e Tirano em It'alia, 'e uma maravilha da engenharia ferrovi'aria. Ela opera em uma linha hist'orica, mas tem recursos modernos como eletrificac~ao e Wi-Fi, integrando-se perfeitamente `a rede de transporte di'aria.
