Harilaid islet has a truly unique elongated trapeze shape that is defined by waved boundaries that line the islet from its South-East to North-West points. A low plain, its highest elevation does not exceed 5 m, and the entire area of the peninsula is a mere 3.62 km^2. With a lighthouse on Harilaid's northeasterly Kiipsaare cape, and an opposite southeasterly point named Kelba; Harilaid may be small in size, but it is vast in its diversity. The peninsula's flora represent 261 species of flowering plants and vascular cryptogams. Harilaid rose from the sea as an island 1,000-2,000 years ago.   Source: VisitEstonia

The mosaic, which stretches about 30,000 pixels width, includes 99 images taken on Sol 364 (August 14, 2013). We are no longer restricted by the offset between Earth and Mars time, so we can plan drives every sol this week. After each drive, we continue to take MAHLI and MARDI images to document the changing terrain near the rover. Agusalu Nature Reserve is a nature reserve situated in eastern Estonia, in Ida-Viru County. The nature reserve encompasses a portion of a large area of wetlands, and the landscape is dominated by bogs; however it is also the location of the only system of continental sand dunes in Estonia, overgrown with rare old-growth forest. The area has traditionally been difficult to access and therefore the traces of human influence are very limited. It even served as a refuge for local people during times of war. Oil shale mining in the vicinity, as well as intensified forestry, are today the major threats to the area's unique environment. The area is home to a number of rare or protected species. From the fauna, gray wolf and Eurasian lynx can be mentioned, as well as several birds - it is the most important nesting area in Estonia for the common greenshank and home to both white-tailed eagle and golden eagle.
