Gigapixel view from the summit of Triangulation Peak (elev. 5,434') near Detroit, Oregon. The peak has an exceptional view of Mt. Jefferson, Oregon's second highest peak to the east. The peak also contains the unique nearby features of Spire Rock & Boca Cave. Last summer, the Whitewater Fire swept through here & apparently burned the south face of the mountain right alongside the crest. A group of hikers are seen at the main viewpoint summit, speaking limited English as they were visiting from Siberia, Russia; one of their family members lived nearby in Salem. A fire lookout once adorned the site where everyone was standing, built in 1933 but removed in 1967. There was a brief clearing in the air from heavy smoke & haze leading to this remarkably clear day where on could see Mt. Hood to the north south to Diamond Peak. Looking towards Mt. Hood, there are tons of specs to which I had a large mat of gnats that I couldn't get rid of hovering right by me. Gigapixel panorama (1.344 gigapixels), 246 photos, 51852x25926 pixels
