(According to the OP)
Happy New Year K-ONTD!
2022 was the year of the girl groups and female performers, we got a lot of good music so I present you another year of the Best Kpop Songs…2022 edition!
Here's the list from
2018 /
2019 /
2020 /
2021Let’s revisit the criteria for this list:
-Only tracks with OFFICIAL music videos. (Title tracks or B-sides)
-Only one song per group (Including sub-units & solo releases....to have more variety)
For example: If Red Velvet is in this list (which they are) that means that Seulgi’s solo cannot be included (sorry girl!) but the exception could be that GOT/Girls on Top could be here (they’re not) even if they share Seulgi cause they are two different groups, with that said, sorry if anyone gets offended or butt hurt.
Bonus: HyunA- Nabillera
It wouldn’t be a Kpop list without HyunA. Sadly, Nabillera is just not as good as other of her releases, but I didn’t name one of my dogs HyunA for nothing I also appreciate the Macarena choreography…so I'm including her (even if it’s at the bottom of this list).
50. DKZ – Uh Heung
This song is kinda odd, kinda weird, kinda cool? A mix of sounds with a chorus that reminds me of Stray Kids’s Miroh. Uh Heung is one Frankenstein of a song.
49. RM- Still life ft. Anderson Paak
I appreciate the more fast-paced solo release instead of a sobby ballad, the MV is cool. Fun game: take a shot every time you hear Still Life.
48. Dreamcatcher- Maison
There’s a reason why they got their first win with this song. Keeping their rock-ish vibe, they delivered an evolved sound with Maison. I really appreciate the message of the song as well. Although I'm sorry for the InSomnia’s on ONTD…I still can't fully get into their music.
47. Yuju- Play
Perhaps a few were expecting a little something more fierce, but Yuju really had the best post-Gfriend solo release ( I said solo cause Viviz is up on this list). The instrumental is out of the box for a kpop release, but it really highlights her voice nicely.
46. Lee Chae Yeon – Hush Rush
Beating the plagiarism allegations, the former Iz*One member made her solo debut with Hush Rush. I wasn’t sold on it at the beginning, but after a few listens I found the song charming with a corky instrumental. I must be honest, after watching her solo stages I’m in the minority when I think she works better in a group, but nonetheless, her debut is promising, and I hope she keeps releasing bops.
45. MakaMaka – I am
Just found out about MakaMaka this year, but I was pleasantly surprised about their release I Am. The song gives me old school Kpop/Girl’s Days/ BESTie. Sadly, the MV is a bit generic since they’re using the sets that every mid-nugu group uses, but the quality of the music is there.
44. YooA- Selfish
With questionable styling choices, the Oh My Girl member delivered the repetitive Selfish as a follow up for her solo career. The song is not for everyone but…. i like it.
43. Blackpink- Pink Venom
The superior release (according to me) the BP girls are the definition of “Why fix it if it isn’t broken” but are we bored of Teddy? Yes.
42. Lee Chanhyuk – Panorama
1/2 of AKMU released a soft pop ballad with cool synths. The song takes you to a lonely 80s dance floor, with good vocals, nice visuals and a good easy tune, Panorama is one of my fave songs of 2022.
41. Jessi- Flash
This song was everywhere on TikTok even with non Kpopers…so obviously it deserved a place on this list. Im gong to go ahead and say that this is pretty much Jessi’s best release to date. Catchy lyrics and music, and it showcases her rapping as well as her voice. Zoom in, Zoom out!
40. Rocket Punch – Flash
This release flew under the radar for a lot of people but that doesn’t mean that it is not good, with a lowkey banger of a chorus, the girls are ready for action
39. Ateez – Guerilla
I had Ateez in my radar since I’m The One (one of my favorite kpop songs tbh) and although Guerilla is a bit noisier for my taste, I still enjoy it.
38. Dawn- Stupid Cool
Im a hardcore Dawn stan, I love his clown fashion and I really dig the nasal tone of his voice, it kind of reminds me of G-Dragon’s voice. He asked HyunA to marry him in the music video, so it doesn’t get more adorable than that…. even though some of y’all didn’t love their rings…anyways they’re no longer together but I still really like this song.
37. EXID – Fire
Yes, this sounds like a Blackpink song, but better? A little side eye to the blurred MV for the problematic hair, but I have a huge soft spot for the EXID girls, and I was thirsty for some music. Happy they went with a mature concept because you don’t see those as often anymore. LE continues to be one of the best rappers to ever come out of any girl group and I’m excited to see Solji as a mentor in Boys Planet.
36. Chung Ha – Sparkling
Miss Chung Ha had been quiet for a while until she released Sparkling. Although this might not be her strongest title track, it has a fun beat, choreography and her charisma shines through. The whistle in the chorus is cute but I do think she needs to go back to the sound of Stay Tonight, which suits her better since she has the talent to put something fiercer IMO.
35. Cherry Bullet – Love in Space
Fast rap like verses? Yes please! Underrated queens with one of the most solid vocal lines in girl groups. Sadly, they don’t get the recognition they deserve when they keep serving banger after banger. The downside about this release is their Saturated washed out MV.
34. KARD- Ring the Alarm
KARD really said “we are giving our Latin fans everything they want” with this song. It’s probably their best song to date. I can hear the beat with a reggaetonero, so that’s maybe why I like it? Also, the choreography on the chorus with the little hip movement? Amazing.
33. Girls Generation – Forever 1
Listen, I am in the minority of the ones that say that women should be making grown up music (see the next entry) instead of friendly Old Navy music. I wasn’t sold on Forever 1 in the first couple of listens, but TikTok made me like it, to reference the trend I kept singing “I love nuggeeeets” so I guess the song grew on me. I’m just happy they were able to come together and release something as a “full” group, although I was expecting something more among the lines of The Boys or Catch Me If You Can. Shout out to Hyo’s Deep which could’ve been in this position as well.
32. KARA – When I Move
Now this is what I’m talking about, women releasing grown up music, this was a bittersweet release for me cause my queen Hara is missed, happy to see the homage to her in the MV. Although the song doesn’t really go anywhere too interesting, the song is a bop, they all look amazing, and I will forever stan YoungJi (If you saw Roommate you know). Hope they keep continue releasing music together so they can give us Mamma Mia 2.0
31. Seventeen- World
Honestly, I fell off being a carat for a second, but this song is essentially what I liked about Seventeen, nice harmonies, feel good music, a cute MV and a charming choreography.
30. Drippin’ -Villain
Villain has a sleek and sexy vibe to it. Nothing special on the MV but the song makes up for it. More boy group music should sound like it tbh.
29. Winner – I love you
I might get some hate for this since not everyone loved this song, but I love it’s simplicity and the silly MV. Plus if you have S/O you might find yourself singing to them “I love youuu uu u uuu ohuuu uhhh” like I did.
28. Limelight- Eye to Eye
I am not a fan of slower songs, but the production on this B-side is really good. Yes, a B-side with an official video that’s why its in this list. Sadly the title track is not as strong as this song but you should give them a chance cause this trio of girls have a lot of potential.
27. Solar- Honey
Miss Solar came back snatched for this comeback. Just really fun and she looks great.
26. Fifty Fifty- Lovin’ Me
The girls from Fifty Fifty came out of nowhere (according to me) with one of the best mini albums of the year (seriously go listen to it). Its their B-side Lovin’ Me who takes the spot over their title track. The song is giving early 2010’s mixed with dreamy synths, edm vibes and a little bit of Imogen Heap. One of the prettiest songs of 2022, again, their whole mini album is top notch. Also, love a song that includes a voicemail.
25. Baekho- No Rules
Talking about slower songs, my boyfriend Baekho former member of Nu’Est seduces you with his vocals and muscles in No Rules. The MV opens with him in the shower so that already scores high points on this list, but he also delivers clean strong vocals. The song really is not very intricate but it’s a nice listen.
24. Alice- Dance On
The Elris rebranding, now Alice was a very good move for the girls. Mind you, they had excellent music as Elris too (listen to No Big Deal). Dance On taps onto the disco trend with fresh vocals, music and visuals. A carefree song reminiscing a little bit of Twice and fromis_9, make sure to keep Alice on your radar!
23. Highlight- Alone
The guys from Highlight are giving you high notes, sexy choreography, flowy raps and a great song. What else can you ask for?
22. Tan – Du Du Du
If im not mistaken the guys from Tan came from a survival show. Du Du Du is an excellent debut for them, and they have other releases that are catchy as well. I picked Du Du Du cause it's their first introduction as a group and it gave me SF9 realness. Pretty intrigued in what they might bring in the new year.
21. Apink Chobom- Copycat
I liked Dilemma, but Copycat takes the cake with their concept and the easiness of the melody. I loved that the girls ditched the sexy concept that they kept doing for something more outside the litter box (teehee). Copycat is corky, the visuals are whacky, the fashion is weird and I liked the twin concept. The comparison to Sza’s Kiss Me More is a compliment
20. (G)-Idle – Tomboy
Putting the terrible rap aside, Tomboy is a freaking solid track. Giving light Hot Topic vibes, I am obsessed with Mimi at the beginning and the “na na na na na” bridge. I applaud them for including curse words cause that’s something that you don’t see often in Kpop. You might not be a fan of the “Ethnic Hip” girls, but you cannot deny that Tomboy is a really good song. Shoutout to NxDE as well, I love when groups sample of classical music.
19. CIX – 458
Cix is a boy group that continues to be on my best-of lists. First with Movie Star and then with Cinema, this year 458 brings us a newer side. The song starts like any other mid-tempo song until that chorus hits. The chorus is not hard or too noisy, but the melody in it is pretty catchy ‘Go run in the Ferrariiiiiii”. Top-notch boy group music.
18. WJSN – Last Sequence
After stealing the crown from Loona in Queendom (jk!) they went on to release Last Sequence. The track shares similarities with their old title tracks, which makes WJSN have their own signature sound. Although OP thinks Done is the superior song, Last Sequence is still an amazing track.
17. Brave Girls- Thank You
After their unexpected success with Rollin’, Brave Girls declared themselves as the new queens of summer (Sistar who? Jk I love them both). They went ahead and created Thank You as an homage to their fans and the public for catapulting them to sudden stardom just to get paid dust on Queendom and almost getting disqualified…but that’s another story. Thank You taps into a retro disco vibe, with a catchy chorus and amazing visuals in the MV. Glad to see the girls are given budget and bops, I really hope they come back this summer and I will always wish for their success. Stan talent, stan Brave Girls.
16. fromis_9- DM
From nuguland to bop after bopland, fromis_9 keeps delivering strong music with pretty cool B-sides as well. This year they gave us DM, a fun song that highlights their vocals and with a high chorus that’s infectious. Sadly they/re down a member this year, but that shouldn’t keep them from releasing more amazing music. I love a success story, we were all scared when they moved to Pledis, but it seems that it was a change that favor them big time.
15. Triple S – Generation
The young girls are taking the K-pop scene by storm. They got a little bit of hate cause people said they were copying NewJeans, but if something is working why not take inspiration from it? All K-pop artists do it…anyways, this song is really really good. I like the fresh concept of their MV with the TikTok dances, instead of a shiny set and a ton of green screen. Sadly this Triple S subunit disbanded after the release of this song, but at least they gave us this bop.
14. CSR – Pop? Pop!
The OP was a HUGE Lovelyz fan, I enjoyed their cute concepts with an edge, which mainly consisted of including 8-bit/Nintendo sounds, so you could imagine how sad I was when they split. Well, my prayers were answered when CSR debuted. Taking a page of the Lovelyz catalog, Pop? Pop! Is an infectious bright cute concept with a twist. The girls are singing, dancing even skipping and imaginary rope and the MV is pretty decent. They later came out with LOVEticon has gathered the attention of the Netizens so I'm crossing my fingers for them!
13. Taeyong – Love Theory ft. Wonstein
This is a controversial take but y’all don’t know how much I LOVE this song. I love the song, the styling, the music video, Taeyong and the beginning of 2:25 “but you got me feeling like woooooouhhhh mah baby babyyyyy”. Amazing, fight me!
12. Red Velvet – Feel My Rhythm
With one of my favorite music videos this year, the girls of Red Velvet gave us a song only for intellectuals. Mixing Bach in a pop song!? Amazing! Love to see my bias’ part going viral on TikTok as well (Joy you will always be famous!). Red Velvet keeps proving that they are one of the finest K-pop groups ever. Birthday was a huge miss for me…*sad face* but at least my girls keep it interesting.
11. Viviz- Bop Bop
This song is a little too excellent. I was nervous when they announced that this trio were becoming a group, I hoped that they didn’t release a cutesy concept (sadly they did after this with Loveade), but their debut didn’t disappoint. They gave us Odd Eye Circle color palette with a fun in-your-face pop track. This song also probably has my favorite intro of any song in 2022. Sad about their run-on Queendom but sadly they didn’t deliver as fiercely as they could.
10. Kep1er- Up
Yep, you read that right. We have to admit that they had the best post-Queendom title track. Up is a ton of fun, it has cheerleader vocals, a slow sultry verse, cute choreography and a colorful MV. Also this group has some of my favorite contestants from Girls Planet, Yujin and XiaoTing fighting, and although I wished some members were not part of the group I hope they keep their success. My take on this is also that MVSK is their best song, and it is a huge crime that it wasn’t a title track either for them or a fiercer group. Sadly We Fresh didn’t continue their strike of fun music, but I am already anxious to see what else they have in store.
9. B.I. – BT BT ft. Soulja Boy
A total banger, and a song that could do incredibly well in the West. Summer, a sweaty club, cold drinks, grinding up on someone? Yes please.
8. Kwon Eun Bi – Glitch
This is what I call a posh release. The song has an isolated chorus fit for the gays, not to mention the voguing in the choreography. The computer sounds, the futuristic visuals *chefs kiss*. That last part of the song with that dubstep? unexpected, and I think out of all the Iz*One girlies Kwon Eun Bi feels the most like a true soloist. If you enjoy Glitch, I highly recommend listening to Croquis from her most recent mini album.
7. Le Sserafim – Antifragile
Not surprised that this song was produced by a Latinx, this song screams reggaeton and that’s why I like it. They ditch the melodic parts of the songs for a faster paced rap styled kinda song. The girls demonstrated that they are fine as a girl group with 5 members. I like the elevated girl crush concept, the choreography, the music video and overall the whole vibe of these girls. 10/10
6. Stray Kids – Case 143
Noise at its finest. This song has pots and pans in the background, a little bit of mambo, some nice harmonies, and a pretty great MV. Case 143 is one of my favorite Stray Kids video and I prefer this sound to their more chaotic releases. They always deliver interesting choreography but my favorite part about this whole song is the pre-chorus “Rolling in the deep inside my head you got me bad” literally obsessed with that part.
5.Billlie- GingaMingaYo (the strange world)
I was a fan since their first release, I loved the dark lyrics, the MV and their whole vibe. The teasers for GingaMingaYo made me a little nervous cause it was giving “weird” and “cutesy”, oh but I was very very wrong. GingaMingaYo it’s a yo-yo of a song, the instrumental feels like a rubber elastic bouncing around (if that makes any sense) mixed with some cheerleading chants. Some of ya’ll might think it’s too much, but this type of songs is what makes Kpop so exciting.I also love a good song that’s tied with a viral moment, and my girl Tsuki did that, if you haven’t watched the Tsuki fancam I highly recommend it, the facial expressions, the precise moves? That girl is a star! Glad to see that Billlie is getting noticed.
4. OnlyOneOf (YooJung) - Begin
YooJung of controversial group OnlyOneOf not to be confused with the group ONF was the first one to release his solo song. Subsequentiely all the other members went on to release solo songs usually highlighting gay stories between the members, with a heartfelt message on the description of the video “Among the countless lovers in the world, there are also lovers that couldn’t be blessed.” . OnlyOneOf remind me of Stellar, in which their controversies eclipse their music. Begin is a prime example of a good produced K pop song, with a simple but effective MV, this probably was out of the radar for a bunch of you, take a listen and find out why it deserved the 4th place.
3. Nayeon – Pop!
This could be easily interchangeable with TWICE’s Talk that Talk, but I decided to go to Nayeon because even as a soloist she shines through, now that’s a star yall!. The music video is shiny and bright just like her, and she delivered one of the trickiest hand choreographies of 2022 (at least for me with no hand coordination). My girl came through with budget, outfit change after outfit change and expensive sets, we love to see it. Again, Talk that Talk is a top tier song as well with a cool tricky hand choreography (try to spell L O V E like they do, hard!). I am excited for the future of twice, more solo releases *ahem*Jihyo and subunits as well *ahem* MiMoSa? I like that name for them.
2. STAYC- Run2U
Yall already know that I’m a STAYC girl, and although I did enjoy the oddity of Beautiful Monster, Run2U is the superior song of 2022. Sadly, its missing a “Stayc girls, its going down” intro but the “Run” is equally fun. J shines in her rap but the highlight of the song for me is the bridge followed by the last chorus, believe when I tell you that I’ve reproduced this song like 100 times just because of that part. Sieun’s and Isa’s voice saying “So I’ll run too youuuuu uu u uuu, so I’ll run to you, whatever, whenever baby” is the part, I want looped on my funeral.
Bonus:
Aespa – Illusion
I needed this song to be on the list but sadly the official video is a lyric video. Regardless, I still think that this should’ve been the title track. The slurp!? Iconic tbh
This year like its already a tradition brings us a tie.
*Drum Roll*
1.IVE – Love Dive
With Love Dive and After Like the girls from IVE had an incredible year with two of the best songs of 2022, I thought the songs could be interchangeable for the first place, but I had to go with one and although I do love a disco theme, I am picking Love Dive to take the #1 place. Why? The MV aesthetic (I’m a sucker for hearts), the “narcissistic, my god I love it) part, the breakdown with the choreography, the styling, the stripped-down chorus that later becomes a chant? It’s just TOO GOOD! The girls keep showing us that they are a monster of a group and that so far they haven’t missed a beat.
NewJeans- Hype boy
I’ll be the first to admit that stanning such a young group is kind of odd, but then again, I’m just enjoying the music and buying their albums nothing else. The girls came out with one of the best mini albums of 2022 and although the album came with bops like Attention and the questionable but still very enjoyable Cookie it was Hypeboy that really made me stan them. A feel easy, soft pop with a sprinkle of early 90s RnB, I was sold the first time I listened to it. The MV just adds to the song giving us various music videos with a different point of views. The styling was also on point, but overall it just a good produced and performed song, the choreography is fun and the girls are extremely charismatic, a rare thing for 4th gen groups.
Taeyeon- INVU
Honestly, not a huge fan of her previous work cause it's usually pop power ballads, and I like to dance to my Kpop, INVU is not something I would go for but my god if this isn’t almost a pop-perfect song. The aethereal aesthetics fit perfectly with the mood of the song, the clever spell of INVU and I adore the little dance with the shoulder shimmy. The synthpop song highlights Taeyeon’s strengths as a vocalist with music that puts her voice to the front, delivering one of the best songs of 2022.
And that’s a wrap!
Not technically Kpop but including it nonetheless since it was promoted on K-variety shows
XG- Mascara
Did I miss anything? (probably)
This year was dominated by the ladies, they keep delivering the most interesting music.
What are your favorite Kpop songs of 2022!?
