Il volume descrive le tecniche digitali e tradizionali attraverso immagini mirate, accompagnate da un testo accessibile che svela le nozioni necessarie a creare immagini di buona qualità. Un fotografo professionista, esperto del digitale, mette a dispozione la sua competenza e creatività per insegnare a trarre il meglio dalle nuove tecnologie, offrendo gli strumenti per orientarsi nel mondo delle fotocamere, computer, periferiche e programmi per l'elaborazione delle immagini


Ottimo libro che si propone di fornire al lettore una panoramica della fotografia in chiave moderna. Il libro è ben fatto, molte illustrazioni, testo chiaro, semplice e conciso. Affronta il tema a 360°, partendo dalle basi fino ad arrivare finanche ai consigli per le applicazioni della fotografia nel mondo del lavoro. Fornisce anche molti spunti creativi, illustrando sapientemente alcune tecniche, sia di base che piuttosto avanzate, di fotoritocco. Il libro si intitola "fotografia digitale" ma non lascia fuori chi ancora utilizza l'analogico, infatti ha una apposita sezione dedicata allo scanner, sia per pellicola che piano, nella quale ne spiega il funzionamento, fornisce dei consigli per un acquisto mirato e spiega come usarlo al meglio. Il prezzo credo sia più che proporzionato, il libro è stampato ottimamente e rilegato in modo molto robusto. Lo consiglio sia a chi intende avvicinarsi alla fotografia per la prima volta, sia a chi vuole approfondire la sua conoscenza, magari per comprendere meglio alcuni aspetti di quello che è il nuovo mondo della fotografia.

There are 192 countries in the world, and children from 187 of them live in the UK. So begins Caroline Irby's journey to photograph and hear the story of one child from each of those countries.

Caroline Irby is an acclaimed newspaper features photographer who has worked extensively in Africa and central Asia, and who has a reputation for telling the story through photographing children in these countries. The Guardian newspaper commissioned her to come back home and to spend a year photographing and hearing the story of children from foreign lands who've settled for one reason or another in the UK.

The results of the project was an interactive website telling all the stories on the Guardian's website (http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/interactive/2008/oct/18/ch ...) and these four short films for Channel 4.

The films each tell a different part of the story: Arrival, Finding My Feet, Looking Back and The Future.

I am an eclectic photographer, responding to the beauty, the humor and the tragedy I see in the world around me. Among the variety of subjects I have shot, over the years I have found myself repeatedly drawn to create images of “street people”. These people are not just a group or mass or statistic, but are individuals like the rest of us, each wearing his own life on his face.

Though occasionally I will take an anonymous shot from a distance, I prefer to approach a person, learn a little about him, and with his permission take a series of shots hoping to capture some aspect of his reality in one of the portraits. I like to get close, to a person whom many other avoid. The black and white versions reveal the critical essence through their emphasis on shadows, light and contrast. For me the faces are both beautiful with their humanity, and frightening with their hopelessness. I want to share them with the world, both as my art, and as a visceral reminder-- we are all but one bit of bad luck away from this state.
