(Mother Earth - Earth of Earth)
DESCRIPTION: The Princess of Sacred Circles is the archetypal Native American Earth Mother. In particular, she is the Woodland image of the Earth Spirit, Nekia-Yo^m-Menae^s, daughter of Grandmother Moon (Queen of Sacred Circles). Her shield, a color wheel, is painted in traditional hues of white, black, red, and yellow (reminiscent of the four colors assigned to the Qabalistic Sephiroth of Malkuth, or Earth). It was a pan-Indian belief that the red race were caretakers, or stewards, of the earth. (Prior to contact, several Native American cosmologies described the creation of four races: red, yellow, black, and white.) Also hanging on the wall of the lodge is a bundle of corn, symbolizing the gifts of the Earth.
Mother Earth wears a plain deerskin outfit; her fringed tunic is decorated with a quill-work neck and floral beadwork at the shoulders. Her green broadcloth blanket boasts elaborate beadwork in floral designs on the red banding. Noticeably pregnant, she warms an infant in the folds of her blanket. The baby nibbles on a doll made of willow withes-identical to the doll in the Queen of Sacred Circles card.
MEANINGS: A person with a strong affinity to the earth, which can manifest as concern for the environment, concern for animals and children, or domestic concerns of the home and hearth. The traditional meanings of thrift, diligence, and benevolence apply here, as well as the negative implications of waste and laziness. The image of Earth Mother also suggests that the responsibility of constant nurturing can be wearing; so the card also speaks of physical burnout.| Ðóáðèêè: | Òàðî |
