Lara's Guide to Swirling:

First you'll want to start with soap that's at medium trace.

Too thin, and the layers will all run together, giving you more of a marbling than a swirl.

Too thick and the contrast color won't really drag through.

I scent my soap and then usually set aside about 1/3 or so of my batch for the contrast color.

If you have a plastic squeeze bottle with a pointy spout, like the kind some restaurants use for ketchup and mustard, it'll be easier to drizzle your contrast color evenly and to the edges, especially if you're using a log mold. But a measuring cup with a pour spout and a steady hand will do fine, too.

 
Step 1: Pour a thin line of your contrast color over the bottom of your mold, in a zigzag pattern:
 
Step 2: Very carefully pour a thin layer of your main color over your contrast color. It's best to start in a corner and zigzag your way to the other side, rather than just pouring into the center of the mold, because you'll end up pushing all of your contrast color out to the edges:
 
Step 3: Pour another thin line of the contrast color over this layer. Hold the measuring cup or squeeze bottle close enough to the surface so that the contrast color sits on top of the layer. If you pour too high up, the contrast color will sink below the surface.
 
Step 4: Repeat step 2.
 
Step 5: Repeat step 3.
 
Step 6: Take a chopstick and drag it through the soap in a zigzag pattern, from one side of the mold to the other (make sure you're touching the bottom of the mold with your chopstick).
 
Step 7: Repeat step 6, but go up and down this time.
 
Step 8: Repeat step 6, but go from the top right corner to the bottom left corner.
 
Optional step 9: If you want, you can finish off by dragging the chopstick through your soap in big circles, to break up the straight lines.
 
You're done! If you use plastic dividers, push them into your soap now.
