Joseph Branko Zbukvic:

Художник Joseph Branko Zbukvic родился в 1952 году в Загребе в бывшей Югославии. В Австралию иммигрировал в 1970г.

Годы формирования  личности Джозефа  прошли на небольшой ферме в окружении большой семьи, где большая часть работы делалась по старой традиции вручную. Этот  опыт умиротворённой и гармоничной жизни дал ему понимание отношения человека с природой и развил у него любовь к труду. Бабушка Джозефа очень рано, ещё в его школьные годы,  распознала  талант художника во внуке и способствовала  развитию этого таланта. Эта любовь к рисованию осталась с Джозефом и заложила основу всего его творчества. 

 

 

Но несмотря на его очевидный талант, родители Джозефа решили, что в профессии художника у сына не будет будущго и в 1967 зарегистрировали его в университете, чтобы изучать языки и литературу для будущей преподавательской деятельности.
Учёба была прервана в 1970, когда из-за политической ситуации они решили иммигрировать из Югославии в  Австралию. Там Джозеф продолжал свое образование в университете Дикина (Deakin University) в Мельбурне. Он закончил в 1974, получив диплом по специальности Художник промышленного дизайна. Во время учёбы он открыл для себя акварель и начал писать снова. Джозеф моментально добился  успеха в творческих конкурсах, получив свою первую главную художественную премию в 1975.
Первая персональная выставка Джозефа состоялась в 1977 в галерее Eastgate Gallerу в  Мельбурне.
В 1978 он начал заниматься живописью, посвящая ей уже полный рабочий день, и быстро стал ведущим акварелистом Австралии. Он добился огромного успеха со своей изящной и изысканной  акварелью, охватывающей невероятное разнообразие сюжетов и тем.
После 20-летнего отсутствия Джозеф посетил Загреб в 1990. "I try to achieve a balance of harmony between tonal values, design, colour and mood that will visually evoke the emotions between the viewer and the painting. Watercolour, with its subtle and gentle effects is a perfect medium to achieve this."

PERSONAL BACKGROUND INFO:
His formative years were spent on a small farm, in an extended family environment where most of the work was done manually in a traditional manner. This idyllic experience gave him an understanding of man's relationship with nature and developed his strong work ethic. His grandmother was quick to recognize and encourage his talent even in his preschool years. This love for drawing has remained with him and is the backbone of all his work.

 

Joseph's early education was very versatile and included both the performing and visual arts. Despite his obvious talent, his parents decided that there was no future in painting as a profession, and in 1967 enrolled him into a university to study languages and literature in order to pursue a teaching career.
This was interrupted in 1970, when, due to political unrest, they decided to immigrate from Yugoslavia to Australia. There he continued his formal education at Deakin University in Melbourne. He graduated in 1974, gaining a Diploma of Art in Industrial Design. During this course he discovered watercolor as a medium and began to paint again, achieving instant success at art competitions, winning his first major art award in 1975.
He had his first solo exhibition in 1977 at Eastgate Gallery, Brighton, Melbourne.
In 1978 he began painting full time and quickly established himself as a leading watercolorist. He has achieved enormous success with his sensitively rendered watercolors covering an incredible variety of subjects.
After a 20-year absence, he visited Zagreb in 1990. He received a warm welcome and was made artist in residence at the Mimara Museum of Fine Art.

Joseph Zbukvic is one of the finest master watercolor painters in the world; his watercolor painting instruction workshops sell out wherever he travels.

Joseph began his painting career in 1978 and quickly became one of Australia’s finest artists. Born in Zagreb, Croatia, Joseph immigrated to Australia when he was eighteen and has since won over 200 international awards with over 40 solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, London and San Antonio.

Joseph is a highly skilled artist who has the ability to create a magical atmosphere and mood in his paintings. Joseph is a strong believer in the benefits of painting on location. “My interest in painting began at a very early age. I grew up on a small farm in Europe where most of the work was done manually and in harmony with nature. I still find the landscape produced by this fine balance, the favourite subject for my paintings." Joseph exhibits a clarity of depiction and a faithful exactness to his subject matter tapping skillful drawing, masterful structural understanding and a remarkable watercolour technique to capture the enduring yet enigmatic tapestry of living.

Joseph is a member of the Victorian Watercolour Society and was its vice president from 1991 to 1994. He is a long-serving member of the Twenty Melbourne Artists’ Society and Australian Watercolour Institute. Joseph also teaches at Charles Sturt University and the Mitchell School of Arts.
