Talking about MJ and my art in the magazine “Newsweek” …a new special issue hitting stands now.

But the story in Newsweek is a bit off, here’s the truth about what MJ and I talked about at his home in 2008. Articles only mention bits and pieces of a story and I thought you would enjoy the full true story:
In 2008, MJ flew me to Las Vegas and he told me he was going back to work and wanted me to start on some new paintings. After a few weeks of sketching and thinking about concepts, I told MJ I wanted to combine oil painting with digital art printed on canvas for some of the larger murals, I told him the art should be fresh and current, something new, and he LOVED the idea. I was planning to work with a Japanese digital-artist friend of mine Kagaya, who I met while exhibiting in Japan years ago. When Kagaya bowed out, I contacted another artist Drazenka Kimpel and I showed MJ her work and he loved it (Michael actually kept a piece of her work I gave him at Carolwood). We were ready to fly her out to LA and start on some ideas when MJ suddenly passed.

So this is the true short version about what we discussed and the direction MJ and I were heading towards in creating new murals for his home and museum. No one else knew any of this, MJ told me he hadn’t seen or talked with David Nordahl in years. I was planning on working with Drazenka to mix oil painting over huge massive digital images to create a totally new look for MJ. MJ was planning to film everything too, as the paintings were being created. -N.G.
