Наверное, нельзя не заметить, что в последнее время в интернете, газетах, по телеку и на наружке Таиланд все чаще стали называть Тайландом. Когда я учился в школе, в географических атласах страна называлась Таиландом и никак иначе. Что в них написано сейчас, у меня нет возможности быстро узнать, поэтому я полез на грамоту.ру.

На шесть вопросов разных людей, ранее поинтересовавшихся этой проблемой, там дан один и тот же лаконичный ответ: правильный вариант -- только Таиланд. Так что вот.

И еще пара фактов:
- До первой половины 20 века страна называлась Сиам.
- Есть ошибочная версия о том, что новое название произошло от слова Thai, означающего свободу. На самом деле - от названия этнической группы.
