Израель Камакавиво'оле (Israel Ka'ano'i Kamakawiwo'ole, 20 мая 1959 - 26 июня 1997) - гавайский музыкант, исполнявший песни под аккомпанемент гавайской гитары-укулеле. Играть на маленькой четырехструнной гавайской гитаре начал с самого детства. Со своим братом и тремя друзьями он организовал свою группу The Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau, с которой успешно гастролировал и выпустил пять альбомов.
Первый альбом Израель выпустил в 1990 году. Альбом получил премии Альбом года и Вокалист года в местной Академии звукозаписи. Чрезвычайно популярный на Гавайях, мировую славу он приобрел вместе с выходом альбома Facing Future, который стал первымплатиновым альбомом на Гавайях. В США было продано несколько миллионов экземпляров. Его главный хит, попурри из классических песен «Somewhere Over The Rainbow» и «What A Wonderfull World», попал в саундтреки к фильмам «Знакомьтесь, Джо Блэк», «Найти Форрестера», «50 первых поцелуев», сериалу «Скорая помощь» и других. А впервые «Over the Rainbow» исполнила Джуди Гарленд в фильме 1939 года «Волшебник страны Оз». Он был человеком заметным во всех смыслах – его пластинки получали премии и попадали в американские чарты. Впрочем, эти почести ему были и не нужны, потому что всю свою жизнь Израель посвятил своей Родине и своему народу. В течение всей своей карьеры он пропагандировал и отстаивал права гавайцев как независимого народа. Он отражал это через свои песни и жизнь. В 1997 году артисту во второй раз вручили награду местной Академии Звукозаписи – он победил почти во всех возможных номинациях, но прийти на церемонию уже не смог, поскольку был прикован к больничной койке. Умер в возрасте 38 лет от болезни дыхательных путей, вызванной ожирением. На Гавайях его называли The Gentle Giant, нежный гигант. Он и был гигантом при своем росте 190 см и весе в 343 килограмма, но голос у него был как у хрупкой девушки – высокий, вкрадчивый и нежный.10 июля, в день похорон национального героя на всей территории Гавайских островов были приспущены флаги, был третьим человеком удостоившимся такой почести. А десять тысяч человек пришли на пляж Макуа, чтобы выполнить последнюю волю музыканта – развеять его прах над его любимым Тихим Океаном. |
