Materials: Cascade 220 Superwash color #840: 1 skein
Size 6 needles 16” circular and double pointed (dpn)
Cable needle (cn)
Markers
Yarn needle
2 buttons
Gauge: 20 sts = 4” in Stockinette st, or size needed to get gauge
Size: 21”, 22” circumference
Abbreviations: sl = slip K2tog = Knit 2 stitches together
Pattern Stitch:
Row 1: Sl 1, K3, P2, K9, P2, K4.
Row 2: Sl 1, K5, P9, K6.
Row 3: Sl 1, K3, P2, sl next 3 sts onto cn and hold in back of work, K1, K3 from cn, K1, sl next st onto
cn and hold at front of work, K3, K1 from cn, P2, K4.
Row 4: Sl 1, K5, P9, K6.
Repeat these 4 rows for pattern.
HAT
Using provisional cast on, cast on 21 sts and purl one row.
Begin Pattern Stitch, placing marker after 4th th
stitch and after 17 to separate panel. Work pattern until
34, 35 pattern repeats have been completed. Carefully remove live stitches from provisional cast on
and either use 3 needle bind off or Kitchener stitch to close, leaving last stitch on needle. NOTE: The
3 needle bind off will leave a ridge at joining.
Crown: With right side facing and circular needle, pick up and knit 79 sts evenly along edge. (80 sts
total), and place marker. Continue knitting every round until work measures 6 ½”, 7” from bottom of
band.
Shape Top: Change to dpn’s as needed.
Round 1: *K8, K2tog, rep from * around (72 sts)
Round 2: (and all even rounds) Knit.
Round 3: *K7, K2tog, rep from * around (64 sts)
Round 5: *K6, K2tog, rep from * around (56 sts)
Round 7: *K5, K2tog, rep from * around (48 sts)
Round 9: *K4, K2tog, rep from * around (40 sts)
Round 11: *K3, K2tog, rep from * around (32 sts)
Round 13: *K2, K2tog, rep from * around (24 sts)
Round 15: *K1, K2tog, rep from * around (16 sts)
Round 17: * K2tog, rep from * around (8 sts)
Cut yarn leaving a 6” tail and thread through remaining sts. Pull tightly and weave in ends.
Sew on buttons for decoration.
