- Personally I knew some old generation men who were affodable to smoke only high-quality, primary opium at a moderated dose daily and looked great just like Gods even in their 70-80s. (Even their wife/wives were satisfied !). So, maybe it's a problem only for poor men who smoke secondary (second-hand !) opium or too much addicted...

- Photo (My comments): 1. A Rich-family Chinese girl smoking on typical opium bed/salon and setting; 2. Two scholars smoking in local style; 3. A smoking couple (Maybe better for sex !); 4. Smoking opium and tabac in old style; 5. Tea after smoking opium or tabac in rural style.

- This was a kind of high-class entertainment, including song, dance and probably prostitution, for rich people, officials, literature/art people... in too famous street of Kham Thien, or shortly K.T., in Hanoi French-time, especially during 1920s-1950s, and only now restored as UNESCO national cultural heritage (Papa liked it very much !).

My Home Town 750 Years Anniversary (1262-2012)

- Nam Dinh, or Thien Truong as one-time Royal Capital for Tran (Chinese Chen) Dynasty, or Thanh Nam as one among the five citadels in the South of Hanoi (in 90 km), or still Textile Town as its major industry (Mama worked in its factory), also very famous for its Education (Tu Xuong Poet in my street and Le Hong Phong - my secondary school on my street too !) and its love for Soccer (Textile team and Young Nam Ha etc.), is my home town where I've lived for 14 years of childhood and schooling...

1. The French assault in 1883 (I have some photo just after this offenvsive !); 2. Town panorama showed its urbanization; 3. Market is the most famous place (I was also much impressed when first come back to it in 1956 !); 4. Hand-made Riveret connecting to Hanoi and to major Northern towns, provinces etc. by Red River; 5. Copper Street just connecting to my Rattan Street (Just like Old Hanoi where each street specialized in one trade item !); 6. Chinese Street just continuing my street towards the Riveret; and 7. Old Worship Temple on Iron Street next to my street (Still remember some worship procession from its gate !)...
- So many memories of childhood and school...

Actually, the VN King Minh Mang in XIX Century has to banned this type of lady skirt (Shallow River, ie no Underwear !) and changed it to the trousers, as part of social modernization in face of Western invasion. But nowadays they try to revive it by painting, modeling...
