New Year. My Linux crushed. It boots to long, shows error message (something like "problems, some functions of Gnome may not work") and hangs usually. It does not allow to close window with error message, nor run common console (the one on Ctrl+Alt+F1 work ok) nor to reboot normally.
I think this is because of Wi-Fi cause this happened after working with Wi-Fi. It is so strange, but LAN causes seriuos changes in entire functions of the OS. When I first set up LAN, root terminal disappeared and sudo commans started working ok. It did not allow to do this before. Gush, I feel so lame!
Well, in any case I knew this day will come. I'm gonna re-install linux. Also I have Gentoo image so maybe I'll install new one. Oh, well. Nothing go wrong.
Well, I installed StarCraft to Linux. It work on Wine. But... it is so slow! Well, when will I start reading manuals for Wine? Lazy and stupid one...
Also I set up wi-fi... but just with WEP - I have now idea how to do it even for WPA, not WPA2
Well, also my system crashed today. This was the first time. Just ok, I new this will happen sooner or later. There is no need to re-install anything this time but there were few problems. Now I have two ways which are to be more careful, or go on crashing the OS. Second is better. I have to learn.
I am tired so haven't managed myself to try to fix ntfs disks mounting or set up mutt mail client. But I have installed Opera web browser and learned where programes are stored. Also I know how to create shortcut in Linux. I feel such a fool... but there is no problem. I'll learn.
I can't run Photoshop on Wine even after installing Gecko as recommended. Maybe I should re-install the software from Linux with Wine to run it ok. I'll try. Also how do I go about kernel re-assembling for my particular computer?
There are so many questions, but noone is interested except my Internet friends.
I tried to run Miranda on Wine but get an error. It wirks but shows just black window with no controls. Now I have to find out how to tune Wine. I even have no idea where tos search for it.
Also yesterday I have got first confirmation that my solution to move to Linux is good idea. My flash drive was returned to me with file from friend of mine. And it contained common virus. in autorun.inf that usually appears when you have public flash drive, i.e. when you plug it anywhere. Well, I don't care about viruses. Nomore.
Google launched so-called google shell. They stated it is interface that operates like unix shell. This is ajax script. I have tested it lately. First impession was quite good, but... on command gmail it gave me just hml login window. I was very disappoimted. Then I tried login but with same effect. I'm gonna write bugroport to developers...
Well, first shot in Wine. I tried to run portable office in Wine. it just work with no questions. Maybe it's something strange, but I'm gonna run Zuma next. After that I'll try to run Adobe CS3 on Wine.
My OS loads upadates for itself. I help it, but I have no idea what are these updates. Feel a bit silly. Wanna do nothing after weekend. It was just a little crazy and very active :) Pool, riding etc.
I found out I can rotate 3D Compiz desktops with touchpad. Nice :)
Oh, damn! Something happened with Gnome PPP while I was typing this message... So I had to learn how to configure wvdial. Well, I did it.
As I told today the friend of mine: Usually I feel very stupid and lame. But I do will learn how to do something. And then will be upset because others are so stupid

I have set up Jabber. I wasn't able to find it in Pidgin protocols earlier because it has different name: XMPP. Everything works perfect. Also I had an idea to change smile pack in Pidgin, but can do it. If anyone has experience, please help. I can't copy smilepack to appropriate folder, cause i have no permissions. i tried with cp from console. Same effect from common console - no permissions. And something strange from root console. cp command succeeded, but i can't see files in the folder. ls shows them from root console. But same ls from user console shows only old folders. So the pre-installed directory viewer does. Have no idea where I have copied the files... I suppose I will need HDD formatting as soon as I find out how to use the OS :) Also it will be good idea to get Midnight Commander.
My next step will be Wine, but I don't feel self-confident enough to start working at it.
Also friend of mine made a great joke. I asked him if he knows how to open console with keyboard keys. And he told me to press Ctrl+Alt+F1
So I am is console, but not common console window, just bash. exit does not work... startx does not work... next idea was to press Crtl+Alt+F2. No success. Just another console, tty2
Well, after few experiments I found out that graphics work on 7-th console... Damn ) I hate him )
And of course he posted our fucking dialogue to bash...
My brother told me I should learn how to compile linux core. I suppose he is too fast. I do will, just a little bit later :)
I set up IRC on Pidgin, but was kicked on #ubuntu-ru again. Can't connect. I will try to find out. Maybe later today or next time. Currently I entered #ubuntu-women but all are dead there.
В колонках играет - Sanger in Ketten Настроение сейчас - hooray!
I did it! Inet is now working. I am writing this post from linux. The problem was solved simply. I just had to enter any username and password to standard Gnome caller (empty username and pass causes error) and set flag "ignore username and password request" in connection settings. And that's it. I'm done ;)
Now I can move to linux. The only reason that stopped me was impossibility to read inet mans from here. No I do not need to reboot each time and I am happy :)
Pidgin icq is also working. IRC connection and Wine will be the next step. I love this world.
I located wvdial already installed on my HD. So I do not need to install it again. Still having some problems with inet. For some reason wvdial asks requests /dev/modem, not /dev/ttyACM0 where real modem is. I read I should run wvdialconf for automatic configuration. They write I will just need to input my esername and password. But it is still unclear according initialization string. Also it deos not even ask for dialing number. Maybe something wrong... But I'll check.
I brought 2 cans of beer home today. Someone is sleeping so I can't turn on music loud. I can't turn it on even in headphones cause the only headphones I have are ones with the phone and it is plugged to the comp with its single mini USB port.
Just another day, still not on linux. I decided to have a break. So currently I've been reaing according this theme. I found interesting article according device mounting. I may help me in future.
I also hang on irc channel dedicated to ubuntu. There are great people there: they are always nice to help and have good humor. So I keep laughing reading the channel.
You get get there With IRC client or plugin. Host is irc.freenode.net, port is 6667 and channes calls #ubuntu-ru
