Abnormal weather around the world: what's the reason

According to meteorologists, in the coming long weekend residents of the central European part of Russia will again have to face the baroque saw. Moscow and neighboring regions will be hit by the so-called "diving cyclone", which will first bring new blizzards, then give a day of respite, and then will hit with renewed force. Experts do not exclude that snowdrifts will grow by another 10-12 centimeters. And so abnormal

The weather will be all over the world.

Under the snow was the Athenian Parthenon and Istanbul Aya Sofia. In Israel, the prime minister played snowballs. Powder in Libya and Syria. Snow fell even in Egypt, though immediately melted. This, say forecasters, is not an anomaly, but a new reality.

"Nature, hydrometeorological processes are moving cascading to another level. This means that in the future the so-called normal weather will be less and less common," said Roman Wilfand, director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center.

Air currents have a new fashion. If earlier they moved horizontally, along latitudes, now more and more often undulating. Giant bends of high-rise winds are called Rossby waves. Ice air from the Arctic they throw further - to the south, and warm winds of the Atlantic all north.

It's hard to believe, but scientists blame global warming for half the world. More precisely, warming in the Arctic. Instead of the usual sustained cyclone this winter over it anticyclone. He launches the same rossby waves that surprise the southerners with snow, and the inhabitants of Siberia thaw.

"We are used to such a slogan that the Arctic is the weather kitchen. Lately, it's really been such a kitchen. Even, I would say, in a sense, not the kitchen, but some kind of control mechanism," commented Alexander Kislov, head of the Department of Meteorology and climatology of the geographical faculty of The Moscow State University named Lomonosov.

The Arctic has switched the planet for a long time to anomaly mode. The temperature there is growing twice as fast as the average on the planet. The exact reasons are debated. But, for example, last summer at the polar stations were broken temperature records for 50 years of observation.

Polar bears have already been affected. Walruses leave the ice, depriving predators of the forage base.

The ice melts soon. The immediate forecast is rather optimistic. Weather anomalies will be followed by climate mitigation in Russia and the world as a whole.

"The good news is that when the ice melts even more, the air over the Arctic seas will no longer be cold, but rather warm. And these cold frosts in the second half of winter will stop. But it will happen in the future for about 10-20 years," said Vladimir Semenov, deputy director of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics named after A. M. Obukhov, head of the climatology laboratory of the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Snow-covered Alps are already preparing. Owners of mountain resorts seriously discuss what to do with the tracks at a low altitude, when there will be no more snow. Plans to asphalt the slopes to ski with them on roller skis.
