MiaGellar, Haven't seen "Bridal Wars".
I saw "Rachael" and also quit 15 minutes into it. I didn't care about any of the characters at all. Also, I noticed that movies featuring boring stories about bored people, with their dull problems, money and smoking addiction issues, broken relationships and no-way-out-of-this-mess lives, don't excite me at all. I'd much rather watch a period piece.

"The Reader" I finished and it gave me plenty to think about, although the part where she refuses to confess she can't read and save herself from going to prison confused me. Did she do it because she was ashamed? But that reasoning sounds too made-up. Did she do it, because she felt guilty and wanted to serve sentence? More like it. Either way, I thought Winslett was very believable in that role and I think that's why she deserved her Oscar- you believe her. She's an excellent actress.

Mia, if you want something you might enjoy both intellectually and visually, try "The Young Victoria", about the early days of the English Queen.

I agree that "The Reader" gives viewers some food for thought, but still wonder if the movie captured well what the book had to tell. This is why "The Reader" is not too far on my reading list.

Winslet definitely did a great job with the material she was given. I also think it was a little strange that her character did not tell that she was illiterate and wish the movie had given some clues about her reasoning.

I haven't heard about "The Young Victoria", but I'll look into it. Thanks for the recommendation, Irina

"The Reader" should be in the mail tomorrow...So cannot say anything about it.
As far as "RGM," I absolutely loved it! Actors, plot, the way they filmed it... Watched "cover-to-cover" and cried my heart out!!!
And note: I am not a fan of weird, unconventional films. At least, I wasn't...

It made me so uncomfortable every moment of the movie and made me think, think, think....

ALI*lu*YA, maybe I would have liked it better, if I had given it a chance and watched till the end...I was too bored, however, to do it :) Does it get better after 30 min or so?
