Nikolai Bogomolov was born in 1956 in Vologda, Russia and has lived in St.Petersburg most of his life. Though Nikolai graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Technology and worked for 10 years as a research scientist, art eventually consumed him and in 1989 he devoted himself exclusively to painting. Nikolai once described this transformation: "An artist grew inside me like a tree, gradually filling the entire inner space".

Since then, Nikolai has participated in several groundbreaking projects, including the "All for One Earth", which included group shows in St.Petersburg and San Francisco and the creation of a mural on a five-story building in St. Petersburg, and
Urisman Fine Arts, which brought St.Petersburg’s most renowned artists to the US Pacific Coast.

Nikolai continues to work in a several mediums, including oil on canvas, acrylic on hand-made paper, and digital art and computer graphics. Since 1996 he has been teaching computer graphics and design in the Educational Media Center in St.Petersburg, passing on his aesthetic and visual talents to a new generation of artists.

(233x210, 20Kb)   Born in Sydney, Australia, in 1959, Gil Bruvel's French-born parents moved the family back to the south of France when he was 4 years old. While taking drawing lessons at age 9 and learning sculpture basics, Gil made the decision to spend his life creating art. There he found himself inspired by the light and landscapes in this region. He began working with oil paint at the age of 12 and the local environment had an enormous and lasting influence on his palette –giving him luminous colors he continues to use today.

Gil's father, being a cabinetmaker, introduced the budding artist to the inner workings of a wood workshop including furniture design, its practical function, and every aspect of hand crafting each piece. Taking this knowledge and experience with him, Gil began studies at an art restoration workshop 1974, spending the next three years learning the techniques of the Old Masters and modern Masters of fine art. Thereafter he set up his studio in St. Remy de Provence until 1986 when he first made his way to the United States, making it his permanent residence in 1990.

At that time he started to experiment more with sculptures in bronze, mixed media and digital modeling as well as continuing to learn about creative processes in artistic expression.

He was born in Bernau in the Black Forest, Germany. Having started life as a painter of clock-faces, he entered in 1859 the Karlsruhe academy, where he studied under Schirmer and Des Coudres. He subsequently studied and worked, with but indifferent success, in Düsseldorf, Paris, Italy, Munich and Frankfurt, until his reputation became firmly established as the result of an exhibition of some thirty of his paintings in Munich. In spite of his studies under various masters, his art has little in common with modern ideas, and is formed partly by his early impressions of the simple idyllic life of his native district, partly by his sympathy with the early German masters, particularly with Altdorfer and Cranach. In his love of the details of nature, in his precise (though by no means faultless) drawing of outline, and in his predilection for local coloring, he has distinct affinities with the Pre-Raphaelites.Many of his pictures have found their way into two private collections in Liverpool. A portrait of the artist, and two subject pictures, "The Guardian of the Valley" and "Spring Idyll," are at the Dresden Gallery; "Eve in Paradise " and "The Open Valley" at the Frankfurt Museum. Other important pictures of his are "Paradise", "Christ and Nicodemus", "The Flight into Egypt", "Charon", " Pieta", " Adam and Eve", "Solitude", "Tritons", besides many landscapes and portraits. He has also produced numerous lithographs and pen drawings, and some decorative mural paintings, notably in a cafe at Frankfurt, and in the music room of Mr Pringsheimer's house in Munich.Hans Thoma died in Karlsruhe in 1924 at the age of 85.

Vladimir Sobolev

pmos_nmos (Work_of_art)

Born in Moscow,  Vladimir Sobolev, was awarded his first international art prize at the age of twelve years and over the past forty years has traveled extensively , exhibiting and carrying out  commissions in many corners of the world. A former Professor of Fine Art at the Moscow College of Fine Art and currently visiting Professor he remains a truly Russian painter, with a  school of realist paintings as his basis. Admiring the masterpieces of ancient architecture wherever he has been he conveys that special flavor characteristic of each place- be it the walls of the ancient towns of the ‘Golden Ring” of Russia, to the brightly painted facades of Australian cities, the urban landscape of the USA or the gingerbread festiveness of Amsterdam.
