Taurus Street Reserve in western Newcastle is host to hundreds of species of native flora.  With spring on the way, the flowers of terrestrial orchids are blooming.  Pterostylis nutans (Nodding Greenhood) is one of two species of greenhood orchids that occur in the reserve, and is easily the most abundant.  This panorama was taken at about only 10 centimetres off the ground to create an 'insect's eye view' in a virtual forest of orchids.  Greenhood orchids are insect pollinated - chiefly by gnats.

The Skelskaya cave was discovered in 1904 by F. Kirillov, a teacher from the village of Skelya. It was studied in detail by the Complex Karst Expedition in 1960. The cave was formed as a result of a tectonic fault and has a total length of 670 m.

Lake Donuzlav is the deepest and longest lake in Crimea. Today it is a bay - in 1961 the spit separating the lake from the sea was dug and a passage was created for navigation.

This old Post Office in Tyrrell Street, Wallsend was originally built in 1882 and had several mior additions after that.  It was vacted by Australia Post in 1994 when the post office moved to Wallsend Plaza.  The building next to it was a courthouse and police station built in 1878.  The police station closed in ~1990.
