Located 850 meters from Cabo Carvoeiro on the south coast of Peniche, also known in Peniche as Cova Dominique, it remains one of the most important archaeological sites in Portuguese prehistory. Explored by Nery Delgado, who came to present works and conclusions at the Lisbon Congress of 1880, this cave that is about 15 meters above sea level was occupied by Paleolithic Man as well as by certain wild animals such as bears or wolves, who there they carried their prey, as did the man. This cave has revealed traces of human presence since the time of Neanderthals (around 30,000 years ago). It is the most western Neanderthal site in Europe and the world. Due to its history and characteristics, the Furninha cave is a heritage of considerable importance.

A territory traditionally lacking in drinking water, the Peniche peninsula still boasts a landscape marked by the wide diversity of fountains and wells, the most important being the Fonte do Ros'ario. The Fonte do Ros'ario is an imposing diving fountain, in which for the convenience of use, an access ramp and a small interior patio were built that allowed the inversion of the direction of travel of the carts and animals that transported the precious water to the Village . Probably built in the 19th century. XVI or XVII, to meet the needs of the land, was restored in the century. XVIII, according to the 1717 date engraved on the central stone of the entrance arch.

According to local tradition, the cult of Nossa Senhora dos Rem'edios dates back to the 12th century, a period in which an image of the Lady was found in a cave, where the primitive hermitage was carved in the rock. On this site, today stands the current temple. In it, tiles stand out, evoking some episodes of the life of Our Lady. The place attracts large numbers of devotees to a religious festival that takes place annually in October.

These towers were innovative, their unrivaled advance allowed a better coverage of the walls, leaving no blind spots without defensive coverage. Its faceted and massive prismatic shape better resisted the impact of the bombardment. The slope of its bases made it difficult to use the arlete and prevented the mining of the foundations. The main creator of these military techniques was the Italian Francesco di Giorgio Martini (1439-1501), who made them known through his treaties, and in the success of building new fortresses with these new techniques.
