Stoer Head is the westernmost point of the remote Stoer peninsula in North West Scotland, at the northern entrance to The Minch. The wild coastline is guarded by one of nearly 200 Scottish lighthouses operated by the Northern Lighthouse Board.  The Stoer Head light was built in 1870, one of many designed and constructed by successive members of the Stevenson family of engineers between 1797 and 1938.

Arnish Point is a headland at the entrance to Stornoway, the main town on the Isle of Lewis. Its prominent position provides a sheltered bay for the port and is also the location of an historic lighthouse, erected in 1852. The Stevenson-designed Arnish Point light is constructed of iron, rather than the traditional stone, making it the world's first 'pre-fabricated' lighthouse.

Caerlaverock Castle is the epitome of a medieval stronghold, with its twin towered gatehouse, imposing battlements, and a moat. It is also unique among British castles for its triangular shape. It was completed in the 1270s close to the site of earlier stone-built castle that was soon abandoned as it often flooded due to the marshy terrain of the Solway Firth.  As a consequence of its close proximity to the border with England it has something of a turbulent history. It has endured a handful of sieges over several centuries, none more notable than the first in 1300 when the small garrison held out against Edward I and the full force of the King’s army for two days. A contemporary account of the siege, the Roll of Caerlaverock, details the participants who took part in the campaign. The final siege took place in 1640. It lasted 13 weeks as the castle’s Catholic owner Lord Maxwell struggled with Protestant Covenanters. After its fall the castle was slighted to prevent further use as a fortification.

The Ackerman Center (Ackerman Middle School) is located in Canby, Oregon.  Within the grounds is a small peace garden which was conceived during the summer of 2002 when students spent their summer vacation obtaining a piece of steel from the World Trade Center following the September 11, 2001 attacks.  They initially sent 1,800 letters to President George W. Bush & NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg but were turned down, however w/ the aid of Oregon House of Representative Darlene Hooley, they eventually obtained an 18-inch I-beam steel from the Twin Towers as well as a fragment of red granite from 7 World Trade Center which had also collapsed that day.  The beam sits here on display directly above a time capsule that is scheduled to be opened on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.  From 2001 to 2016, over 2,600 pieces of steel have been auctioned off around the US & the world.  Memorials are found in all 50 States, many of them at the entrances to fire stations in various cities & towns.  The US Flag is currently at half staff for 30 consecutive days following the passing of President George Bush senior.

Liwan Lake Park is a collection of travel, sports, entertainment, and rest in one multi-functional, comprehensive park. Liwan Lake Park is the most elegant and graceful style emboding the southern countries. Liwan Park was bulit in 1958, covering an area of about 400,000 square meters, and the lake covers about 2 / 3. So called "Singing Fountain", located at the Hlinka Square (Hlinkovo N'amestie), was built by a team of artists led by Jozef Hasc'ik. Its dominating feature is a heart from which water emerges. Originally here was a building housing many shops, but in 1944 it was destroted to improve the view of the balustrades and towers of the Church of the Holy Trinity - one of the symbols of Zilina.

The Gardens of the Slovak National Uprising (Sad Slovensk'eho n'arodn'eho povstania) is the oldest park of Zilina. They were created in the late 19th century between Vsiv'ak stream (later redirected underground parallel to the park) and a row of Art Nouveau villas.The gardens bore different names in the past - first they were known as Elizabeth’s Park in honour of the famous Austrian Empress, Elisabeth Bavarian, known as Sissi. Later the park became also Millennium Park, Srob'ar Park, Hlinkov Park and Sedlackov Park. After reconstruction at the beginning of the 90s its name was changed into the present name - Sad SNP (short for Slovensk'e N'arodn'e povstanie, the Slovak National Uprising of 1944 to oust the Nazi-collaborating government). At the southern end of the park facing Andrej Hlinka Square there is a memorial to Liberation of Zilina. The inscription date (30 April 1945) means the moment when Red Army soldiers, Czechoslovak soldiers and also Romanian units entered Zilina and liberated the city from Nazi-German occupying forces; the war in Europe ended nearly two weeks later.
