For the reconstruction after the Thirty Years' War donated the Swedish Queen Christina, the Swedish Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna and the Swedish commander Gustaf Horn.

The city Ochsenfurt is located in the Lower Franconian district of W"urzburg. The New Town Hall on the market square forms with the lance turret a landmark of the city. The date of the monument is 1497, but the building was completed in 1513. Below the town hall stairs is the so-called Fools Hut and in the building the historic boardroom with a large oil painting of the Last Judgment.

This is a beautiful and unique place right on the Israeli Lebanese border. The sea, the caves and the white cliffs make the whole area into a special place. Highly recommended for a visit. Rosh HaNikra or Hanikra is a geologic formation on the border between Israel and Lebanon, located on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, in the Western Galilee. It is a white chalk cliff face which opens up into spectacular grottos. The Rosh HaNikra grottoes are cavernous tunnels formed by sea action on the soft chalk rock. The total length is some 200 meters. They branch off in various directions with some interconnecting segments. A tunnel was built during the Second World War for the Haifa-Beirut railroad line, and in 1968 a second one was dug, both connecting the grottoes with each other and allowing access (currently: only exit) along the former route of the WWII railroad. For many years though, the only access to the grottoes was from the sea and experienced swimmers and divers were the only ones capable of visiting. The 400 meters long tunnel dug in 1968 between the grottoes and slightly above sea level improved the situation, and soon after a cable car was built to take visitors down from the top of the cliff to the tunnels. With a 60-degree gradient, this cable car is advertised as the steepest in the world. Rosh Hanikra was the location where Israeli and Lebanese officials negotiated and concluded an armistice agreement in 1949 which ended the Lebanese-Israeli component of the 1948 War of Israeli Independence.

The Buchental Valley can be reached via a narrow road about Lohr Steinbach. From here, a hiking trail leads into the Bavarian Spessart nature park. The mill Buchenm"uhle (beech mill )is the third of seven historic mills. The hiker orientates himself at the famous pilgrimage church Mariabuchen. The church is already visible from afar. Already in 1726, the Prince-Bishop Franz von Hutten first mentioned the mill. It was built as an inn for pilgrims.

Drifting clouds obscure the view of Mt. Rainier from the summit of Shriner Peak. Shriner Peak Lookout is the oldest of the four fire lookouts located in Mt. Rainier National Park. Built in the 1932 from a standard National Park Service design, the two-story wood frame structure features a ground floor storage room with an upper level lookout and living space. The lookout is 14’ x 14’ with windows on four sides and a catwalk that wraps the upper deck. The lookout was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 and is still used in critical fire weather. It is located on the southeast side of the park and accessed by a trail that is approximately 8.5 miles round trip with an elevation gain of 3,434 feet. Today the lookout was in the midst of renovation with a new coat of paint and repairs being made to the main stairs and catwalk, hence the ugly sign to deter hikers from using the structure.

We are at the top of the Rucu Pichincha volcano next to Quito in Ecuador. As we walk along the ridge between the big rocks, we can imagine the impressive precipices on both sides, even if we can't see them because the summit in engulfed in the clouds. A hiker is contemplating the infinity of the fog, a small reward for a very hard trek at high altitude.
