Last week, Panic at the Disco released “…Live in Chicago” a CD/DVD capturing their live show and behind-the-scenes life on the band’s most recent tour. With the help of a photographer/filmmaker friend, the Las Vegas quartet also put together a book of Polaroids capturing their life on the road. As the band winds down for the holidays, Rock Daily talked with guitarist Ryan Ross about the last year and what fans can expect from Panic’s third album (hint: if you liked Pretty.Odd., you’re in luck), which Ross hopes to have out next summer.

How did the idea for the DVD and book come together?
Shane [Valdйs, the filmmaker/photographer behind the project] is a friend of ours who lives with Brendan [Urie, singer] and we invited him on tour. At first he was filming and taking pictures, then he started getting into Polaroid film and we came up with the idea to do a tour diary of all Polaroid pictures.

It looks like all of the shots are candid.
Most of it was “day in the life” stuff, where we were doing whatever we do - outside eating lunch or goofing around - and he was there as a fly on the wall. There weren’t a lot of staged shots, which I think ended up being cool. Shane dated all the pictures with the date and where we were, and we ended up having 400 or 500 pictures. Then we chose 100 or so to put in the book.

How did you pick which ones went in?
We each got to choose about 25. Shane laid out all the ones that turned out all right and we made our picks. We had a day, and then two days and then it was “if you don’t pick now, the deadline isn’t going to be met,” so we had to go over them all in a night. Timelines aren’t always the greatest thing with us [laughs]. We were just happy to do it because we wanted to remember the tour and where we were. We still have all of the real pictures and I think we’re going to put them together in some kind of thing for us to have.

And there’s captions written in the book —
That’s my handwriting. We came up with the idea to do captions three hours before we were supposed to turn the book in. Me, Shane and Brendan were the only ones there to do it.

But speaking by phone from his Las Vegas home, he had plenty to say to Out about politics, getting life advice from Snoop Dogg, and just what Pete Wentz meant when he called his pet prodigies “totally gay.”

Катё_Шнур (Panic_At_The_Disco) все записи автора как мне кажется, немногие, но некоторые члены соо, пока думают или уже собираются приобретать этот долгожданный cd/dvd, и наверняка среди них есть те, кто свободно владеет английским и у него не будет трудностей при оформлении заказа. я хотела бы спросить - кто из вас, дорогие мои, не пожалеет буквально 5ти минут своего времени, чтобы помочь ближнему так же заказать это издание? ведь не все тут тусующиеся знают или учат инглиш, но их желание получить это чудо не меньше...

Sure, Panic at the disco released their 70's rock opus Pretty. Odd. this past March. But considering they scrapped an entire disc's worth of songs prior to recording Odd. the band think the time is right for new music. "We're better off than we were last time," explains guitarist/lyricist Ryan Ross. "We've got quite a few songs that we've been working on - we never really stopped writing this time". Having wrapped the Rockband Live tour with Dashboard in mid-November, the band plan to head to the studio with producer Rob Mathes in January or February; and we're not talking any studio, either. "Nothing for certain yet," starts Ross, "but we'd love to do the whole record at Abbey Road this time." The band are still mining the Beatles and other classic staples (Ross cites Elton John, Big Star and Peruvian psych-rockers We all together as prominent influences), so laying down tracks at the infamous London studio seems fitting. Considering the proposed location and the direction of the album, will anyone famous drop by to help out? "I think we're fine with working on other people's songs but as far as us, maybe we just don't have very many friends," says Ross laughing. "We don't have Bono or anything on guest vocals. Yet."
