Well, not cringeworthy in a "why can't I support a harasser, he's my friend" way, at least.

The Fencing Federation of France (say it 5 times fast) now recognizes lightsaber dueling as an official sport.

In an effort to help combat obesity in the country, fencing clubs now have "lightsabers" and training would-be lightsaber instructors with weapons that sound and feel like the "real" thing without the slicy-stabbyness.

There was a competition outside of Paris that drew nearly 40 supporters. Bouts are intended to last in 3-minute bursts.

Maybe they can work up to 20 to 30 minutes soon.

Miley Cyrus, in case you didn't know, loves weed. She loves it so much that, like, Snoop Dogg himself told her she smokes more than anyone he knows (which she only told every person who interviewed her at the time). This apparently got her to quit for ten seconds before her "mom got [her] back on it", as she revealed last December. And Tish, who used to scold both Miley and Hillbilly Ray for smoking weed, apparently now smokes the most, or whatever.

Due to the mix of genres in the mainstream, we were bombarded with a horde of one hit wonders. 18 years ago, artists like Debelah Morgan, Willa Ford and City High were topping the charts. The artists who created their major year 2001 hits were never able to replicate the success. However, their songs always bring back the nostalgia. The year 2000 begins the "part two" of our 2000's one hit wonder series. Let's take another look at the best one hit wonders of the year 2001!

ATC - AROUND THE WORLD (LA LA LA LA LA)

ATC’s "Around The World" was a surprise one-hit wonder in the United States, peaking at no. 28 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and having a chart run of several months. It was later featured on the 2001 compilation album Now That's What I Call Music! 6. Due to the lack of promotion for the album minimal touring in the USA and Canada, follow-up singles failed to make any impact in North America.

AFROMAN - BECAUSE I GOT HIGH

Afroman’s "Because I Got High" only took minutes to write and rose from obscurity to popularity after it was circulated around the Internet and featured on The Howard Stern Show. The song eventually peaked at no. 13 on Billboard Hot 100.

THE CORRS - BREATHLESS

The Corrs’ "Breathless" is the Irish group’s only too 40 hit in the us and their only British chart topper. The song peaked at no. 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals at The Grammys.

LIL ROMEO - MY BABY

"My Baby" was the first single by Master P’s son, Lil' Romeo. The song samples "I Want You Back" by The Jackson 5. It topped the Billboard R&B chart and reached no. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Romeo hasn’t seen a hit since!

KOFFEE BROWN - AFTER PARTY

The duo Koffee Brown had major U.S. success with their debut single "After Party", a jazzy dance track that started climbing the charts in early 2001 and reach no. 7 on the Billbord R&B charts. Koffee Brown filled a male/female-singing duo void of the time and was easily embraced, for one hit.

EVAN AND JARON - CRAZY FOR THIS GIRL
"Crazy For This Girl" was a mega hit for twins Evan and Jaron. The song peaked at no. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and no. 9 on the pop charts. The song was also included in the second volume on the soundtrack of Dawson's Creek.

NIKKA COSTA - LIKE A FEATHER
"Like A Feather" was the first single released from Nikka Costa’s 2001 U.S. debut album, Everybody Got Their Something. The song’s funky throwback sound came courtesy of then-unknown producer Mark Ronson. Although the song wasn’t a major mainstream success the video was often featured on MTV / VH1 "artists to watch for" segments.

LITTLE-T & ONE TRACK MIKE - SHANIQUA (DON’T LIVE HERE NO MORE)

Little-T and One Track Mike was a hip-hop duo of white boys from New Jersey. They’re only remembered for their embarrassing "hit", "Shaniqua (Don’t Live Here No More)", which became popular on MTV in 2001.

MIKAILA - SO IN LOVE WITH TWO

14 year old Mikaila released "So In Love with Two" from her self-titled album in 2000. In 2001, the song went to no. 29 in the Rhythmic Top 40 Billboard chart, no. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 and no. 27 on Billboard's Top 40 Mainstream. Due to the oversaturation of teen pop in the music market, only one follow-up single, "It's All Up to You" was released. Her 2nd single did not chart and she retired from the music industry shortly after.

THE CALLING - WHEREVER YOU WILL GO

"Wherever You Will Go" is the debut single by band The Calling. It remains their most renowned and successful hit, peaking at no. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the Adult Top 40 for 23 weeks, the second longest-running number one in the chart's history, behind "Smooth" by Santana and Rob Thomas. She has been criticized after claiming it is a form of "cheating" for transgender women to be allowed to compete in women's sport. She wrote that it was "insane" that "hundreds of athletes who have changed gender by declaration and limited hormone treatment have already achieved honors as women that were beyond their capabilities as men."

She did more research on the subject : "Well, I've now done that and, if anything, my views have strengthened. To put the argument at its most basic: a man can decide to be female, take hormones if required by whatever sporting organization is concerned, win everything in sight and perhaps earn a small fortune, and then reverse his decision and go back to making babies if he so desires. It's insane and it's cheating. I am happy to address a transgender woman in whatever form she prefers, but I would not be happy to compete against her. It would not be fair."

Her comments were labeled "transphobic" by trans rights group Trans Actual.
Navratilova rejected accusations of transphobia, adding that she deplores "what seems to be a growing tendency among transgender activists to denounce anyone who argues against them and to label them all as 'transphobes.'"
She also highlighted her friendship with Ren'ee Richards, the transgender tennis player. 
She hopes that Caster Semenya will win her case because she has never taken any medication.
