Avatar: The Way of Water officially opened yesterday in 15 overseas markets and is already bringing in the bucks, grossing an opening day of $15.8 million.

Disney is reporting that ticket sales were 124% ahead of the original film. International markets were responsible for 70% of the originals overall gross. Compared to the only two films this year to gross over $1 billion, its 70% ahead of Top Gun: Maverick and 13% ahead of Jurassic World: Dominion. But it was 12% behind the opening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and 23% behind Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Current projections have the film still in the $150-$175 million range. If that holds, ticket sales would be anywhere from 95-127% higher then the originals opening weekend.

Its release rollout continues today with domestic screenings beginning later this afternoon. It's also now playing in an additional 13 markets.

Friend Lucy Fraser shared, “Australia was a real turning point because they were so popular with the public. The internals at the palace were incredibly threatened by [the Duke and Duchess's popularity].”

Harry added, “The issue is, when someone who is marrying in who should be a “supporting act” is then stealing the limelight, or is doing the job better than the person who is born to do this, then that upsets people. It shifts the balance,” he said while headlines about Meghan and Harry being more popular were shown on screen alongside images of Kate Middleton on the King.

He added, “It shifts the balance, because you’ve been lead to believe the only way that your charities can succeed, the only way that your reputation can be grown or improved, is if you’re in the front page of those papers. But the media are the ones who choose who to put on the from page.”

He then said, “the first time that the penny dropped” was after an event with every member of the royal family.

Party boy TV host Andy Cohen has no plan to put down the cocktails when he returns to host CNN's New Year's Eve coverage this year, despite the company's new CEO directing correspondents and anchors not to imbibe, citing concerns that drunken antics would tarnish the company's "respectability" and "credibility".

Cohen, 54, remains undeterred, assuring viewers, "I think New Year's Eve is a night to go hard, and I will be going hard on New Year's Eve. I will be drinking on New Year's Eve — just rest assured of that." He added, "I think people enjoy watching me try to get Anderson plastered, and I will be."

The Fresca brand ambassador doubled down with Rolling Stone: “If the correspondents are not drinking this year, I will be partying even harder on their behalf.”

Hopefully Cohen will not wake up on New Year's Day with the same "regrets" he expressed after having "too much" to drink last year and criticizing ABC's competing New Year's Eve show, Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve, and its host, Ryan Seacrest.

According to a "source," Olivia Wilde is still pretty devastated from her break up to Harry Styles. Horacio on the other hand, is not. The two called it quits last month after almost two years of dating.

A source told ET that Wilde "is still pretty hurt by her breakup with Harry." The source added, "Olivia and Harry had a lot of love for each other and had a great time together, so it's been an adjustment for her."

As for Horatio, the source says "Harry is doing his own thing and focusing on work and his friends. He isn't too broken up about their split." Wilde is focusing on her kids -- son Otis, 8, and daughter Daisy, 6 -- and co-parenting with her ex, Jason Sudeikis.

"She is putting her energy into her kids and family," the source says. "Things between Olivia and Jason are manageable and she's doing her best to co-parent with him in a healthy way. She isn't rushing to date anyone again right now."

I'm not sure what else to call these? I feel like I'm misusing the original work tag.

ANYWAY, I have returned with another ONTD Film Society post. This time, it's the discussion as to why Grease 2 (1982), celebrating its FORTIETH sorry I can't do math anniversary this year AND the sequel to 1978's Grease, is the superior film. This post is a successor to @war_machine_rox 2014 In Defense of Grease 2.





1. It was meant to be a movie.

Grease, the original film, was actually adapted from a stage musical of the same name. While you feel the spectacle in the original, it can DRAG. Grease 2 was originally meant as a film, and therefore there's a lot better pacing, though it is actually 4 minutes longer. To quote a recent thinker, my favorite bit of the movie is that it feels like a movie, y'know?

2. The Introduction of Michelle Pfeiffer to the World

Grease 2 was Michelle Pfeiffer's first lead role. Unlike Travolta & Newton-John, this was Pfeiffer's first role. And come ON, it's MICHELLE PFEIFFER. Three time Academy Award nominee, genre defying Michelle Pfeiffer! Without this we may not have had any of her future performances.

3. Playfulness In Music

While the original has some amazing and poignant songs such as Hopefully Devoted and cheerful love songs like You're The One That I Want, they're very clean and cheery. Songs like Summer Nights and the original version of Greased Lightning discuss sexuality and the duality of teenagers, but nowhere near as clearly and as playfully (and scientifically) as Reproduction.



4. How They Learn Their Lessons

Part of Grease is that Sandy & Danny both lose pieces of themselves and change themselves to be with the other. While change is necessary for growth, it's different in Grease - they didn't need to change to be together, just deal with outside pressure (easier said than done I know). In Grease 2 they actually ... become friends. They don't magically graduate and things get better, they take their lumps and grow organically.



5. Machismo from the female perspective

Part of Grease was the machismo exhibited by the men in the film and somewhat the Pink Ladies. While Rizzo does lean into that machismo vibe, it's not even close to how Stephanie IS machismo; if she was a man she would BE a T-Bird. She's not waiting on one of them to pick her, she's waiting for her match to come and be there. She has that devil may care attitude at certain points that make her a very interesting character and also gives us this absolute banger.





This one truly is my opinion ... what do you think?
