Gazprom overtook Sberbank and finally got the first place in market value. The capitalization of Gazprom at the Moscow stock exchange reached 5,234 trillion rubles surpassing Sberbank with its its value of 5.234 trillion rubles. Soaring financial figures turned out to be possible due to considerable growth in the price of Gazprom's shares in recent weeks amid news on changes in dividend policy of the company.
On the global scale, the picture is bleak. Russian energy giant Gazprom costs twice less than McDonalds or Starbucks. Gazprom failed to enter the race of trillionaires such as Amazon, Microsoft or Apple. In 2019, according to the plans of the government, the tax on diesel fuel will increase by 6.5%, for gasoline - by 2.9%. This is how the authorities intend to fight the pollution of the atmosphere.
Radio RFI notes that over the past year, gasoline prices have risen by 10-15%.
Diesel fuel, which is now the most popular in the country, has risen in price by 24%. Now the cost of a liter often exceeds €1.6. The national average cost of a liter of petrol SP-95 (approximate analogue of AI-95) and diesel fuel is estimated at €1.48.

Italy facing huge fine due to abnormal public debt |
Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini admitted that the country could have to pay a hefty fine of €3 billion. The European Commission might resort to this measure because Italy’s government does not comply with the EU budget requirements which restrict the level of a public debt. Besides, Italy’s government is facing a challenge of tackling budget deficit. Rome was keen to urge the EU authorities to approve it at 2.4% of GDP for this year. However, Rome had to obey the directive from the European Commission and nailed down the deficit level at 2.04%. Brussels predicts that Italy’s budget deficit could swell to 3.5% of its GDP that is likely to spark off a conflict between Italy and the EU authorities. The indicator dropped to 3.3 percent in the first quarter of 2019. In the period from January to April of 2019, profits in telecommunications and electronic equipment manufacturing, which are the most vulnerable to US tariffs, declined by 15.3 percent. Experts note that only Chinese extraction sectors showed strong increases.
Beijing has beefed up countermeasures to support national manufacturers in response to slowing economic growth and higher tariffs imposed by the US.
