DESCRIPTION: Seven different Woodland baskets brim with fruits of the harvest and show off the artistry invested in utilitarian objects. One wooden bowl holds corn; three birch baskets contain beans, fish, and wild rice; a sweet grass basket is filled with mushrooms and morels; a willow withe basket holds various berries (cranberries, raspberries, and strawberries) and grapes; and a white ash basket is filled with bread. Pumpkins, gourds, corn in husks, mushrooms, and green onions spill out of the baskets.
MEANINGS: The rewards of hard work. The bounty of the harvest. Communal sharing of food and/or resources. The fruits of labor sustain the community through the winter season. Conservation of resources for lean times. Or there is too much to choose from; conservation becomes wasteful hoarding; obsession with food, weight, or nurturing issues. Alternately, can imply want, need, homelessness, or hunger. Being shunned by society, being ostracized by the community, isolation, or not belonging.
