DESCRIPTION: The initiate has completed three shields that we saw him working on in the Eight of Sacred Circles card. They serve as wards or talismans to protect the initiation lodge during his vision quest, and are decorated with the emblems of a six-pointed star, bear, and thunderbird. The initiate's cloth turban is draped over the bear shield to absorb its power.
Clouds above the lodge coalesce to form bear and eagle images. These images form in response to the young initiate's invocations. The Great Star (home of the bear) shines in the night sky.
The apprentice has completed his lessons and mastered his craft; he is now a Shield Maker.
MEANINGS: A craft is mastered when the body, the materials, and the idea all become one. An apt analogy is that of a musician who uses his or her instrument as an extension of the self to create what the mind has been hearing. Ethics and values are consonant with one's lifestyle. Work reflects values. Balance between work, social, family, and spiritual responsibilities.: |
