DESCRIPTION: The culmination of the vision quest, where the physical and spiritual worlds merge. A lemniscate of stars bonds and binds the initiate and the fully manifested bear-form. They both adopt defensive postures during this initial confrontation. In one hand the initiate holds a shield of protection (another of his completed projects from the Eight of Sacred Circles card). In the other hand he waves a feather, wielding it as a symbolic weapon.
The young man meets his guardian spirit, who has chosen to manifest in the shape of a bear. This is the White Bear of Native American legend (a brown bear with a long copper tail, surrounded by white light).
Following the prescribed rituals, the initiate requests the blessings of the White Bear in return for his tobacco offerings. The guardian spirit consecrates his shields, and then tells the Menominee creation story. The young man will share it with his clan and tribe, adding to the wealth of ancestral wisdom.
MEANINGS: Integration of the spiritual and physical worlds. Balancing the two worlds through recognition that humanity partakes of both. The physical world is a solid form of the spiritual world-or a lower frequency of the spiritual world, yet an integral part of it. The card illustrates a peak experience, an event that will cast a shadow over one's future. It shows what can be achieved by a fully empowered human being.| : |
