MAK TUMANG

Second to the eldest of the brood of 5 siblings, Mak Tumangs inclination to the arts took its path in his early years as a theater enthusiast henceforth he took Production Design in the De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde. In his college days, he has done lots of stage production designs for plays, pageants, cultural shows and the likes. He also studied Interior Design in the Philippine School of Interior Design. With his innate artistic genes and creative fiber, he sets his heart and mind into the Fashion Industry. He was a semi-finalist in his first major competition in the prestigious Philippine Fashion and Design Competition (2007), organized by the Fashion Design Council of the Philippines and he was mentored by none other than Frederick Peralta.

Mak Tumang is a designer with vision. His rich designs and elaborate details are often influenced by his love of opulent costumes and Architecture of different eras. He uses his strong background in historical costumes and ornaments as his inspiration in manufacturing fabrics using silk, tulle, felt and others for his creations, be it for clients, fashion shoots or runway shows. He is experimental when it comes to fabrics and textures. His penchant for using natural, environmental and eco-friendly materials combined with the beauty and flair of the fashion industry landed him an accolade as he was adjudged as the Grand Prize Winner in the Miss Earth 2nd Eco-fashion Contest (2009).

His journey continues to propel him as he was featured in various local magazines such as Mega Magazine, Metro magazines, Weddings Essentials, Newspapers and tabloids. In 2011, he joined the exclusive Young Designers Guild of the Philippines. In the same year, he was chosen as one of the young designers to showcase a creation in the Metrowear Filipiniana 2011, which assembled the top 100 fashion designers from major design groups to display their creations. He then continues to do other fashion shows like Metrowear Rocks the Runway 2012, the fashion show that staged a stellar combination of music and fashion as it featured twenty premiere fashion designers from two generations and their unique interpretations of sustainable fashion. Metrowear Fantasy 2012 with the four newest wave of young haute couturiers (Martin Bautista, Joel Escober, John Herrera and Mak Tumang), presented the first holiday fantasy haute couture show with festive collection inspired by Christmas stories and characters. Mak Tumang created his ten collection that brought to life the extravagant couture interpretation of the The Nutcracker with the guidance of couture master Frederick Peralta. He was touted as one of the next couture masters and new breed of young designers to infuse new blood into the fashion industry. The list of celebrities who has worn his creations continues with the likes of Angel Aquino, Anne Curtis, Angelica Panganiban, Ruffa Mae Quinto, Solenn Heussaf, Kathryn Bernardo, Yeng Constantino, Maja Salvador, Bea Alonzo and Karylle Tatlonghari to name a few.
