túrána hott kurdís by hasta la otra méxico! from Till Credner on Vimeo.

Sun, moon and stars show up with their daily rise and set. The beauty of our celestial phenomena is increased by the accelerated time lapse technique showing the apparent motion of the sky due to earth's rotation.

Music: túrána hott kurdís by hasta la otra méxico!

From dusk till dawn at Zeller Horn from Till Credner on Vimeo.

The wide angle fisheye view shows the northern night sky seen from the edge of the Swabian Alb plateau in southern Germany. Cities below are Bisingen and Hechingen and in the foreground lies Hohenzollern Castle.

Can you find Polaris, the North-Star? Just start the movie! Polaris is the only brighter star that is not moving! Polaris remains (almost) on its position during the apparent rotation of the sky since earth's axis points to Polaris. All other stars rotate around Polaris! Therefore the name of Polaris which remains always on the same place in the north! (and it is a common misunderstanding that Polaris should be very bright!!!)

Image Details: 16./17. September 2007, ~7pm to 5am UT, f=10.5mm Nikkor Fisheye at 1/2.8, Nikon D200, 45s intervall, up to 30s exposure, Place: Zeller Horn, Swabian Alb, Germany

Music from Beethoven's Symphony Nr.6 "Pastorale"

A smaller sequence of this video was already used in my
"túrána hott kurdís" video compilation.

southern stars from Till Credner on Vimeo.

The three time lapse clips show the night sky from Namibia in southern Africa. The sun sets in the west and is followed by a broad and diffuse display of Zodiacal Light, i.e. interplanetary dust illuminated by the sun. The center of our milky way is rising in the opposite direction. The third view shows the apparent rotation of our sky around the south celestial pole. There is no bright pole star in the southern hemisphere. Can you spot the Magellanic Clouds? Our neighboring galaxies are hiding behind the trees.
