In the run-up to its launch on 2 July, Xiaomi is teasing customers with new details of Mi CC9 and Mi CC9e on almost a daily basis. In its latest post on Chinese social media site Weibo, the company revealed that the Mi CC9 it will have a 32-megapixel selfie shooter with improved Beauty mode and a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor at the back.

 

The teaser says the camera will “restore the natural skin texture” and will “record the beauty of each moment”.

The new Mi CC9 will be Xiaomi’s first in its newly launched CC series of smartphones that was made official just last week. Xiaomi says that the handsets will be targeted at young consumers. The company also said that the majority of team members working for the CC series includes people from the fields of art and fine arts. During the weekend, the company posted a few promo images, revealing the meaning behind the term ‘CC’ -- Chic and Cool, Curious and Creative, Challenge and Carry On and Camera Clicks were some of the give-aways.

A live photo of the Mi CC9 had also surfaced on Weibo, showing the front of the upcoming phone. The smartphone was seen sporting an all-display front, and little-to-no bezel at the bottom of the display.

The Mi CC9 is also expected to feature a motorised flip camera just like the Asus 6Z (ZenFone 6). It is expected to have a triple camera setup. It is also rumoured that the handset would be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 730 SoC. The recently leaked image also shows that there is no fingerprint scanner at the back, which means it could feature one under the display.

 

The Honor 20 comes with a punch hole selfie camera, and features quad cameras at the back. The smartphone goes on first sale today at 12PM.

Startup India and WhatsApp had gotten together earlier this year to launch the Startup India - WhatsApp Grand Challenge. It was meant to push entrepreneurs to come up with solutions to socio-economic problems in the Indian economy

The challenge has now been completed by five startups including MedCords, Melzo, Javis, Gramophone and MinionLabs. Each of them have received a grant of $50,000 each which is approximately Rs 35 Lakhs.

After the challenge was announced, it received over 1,700 entries from 25 states from all over the country. Out of them, about 70 percent were in the early traction period that meant it had been less than three months since the startup's inception. All the participants were judged on the basis of innovative thinking, scale of impact and the ability to solve real problems faced by Indians.

From the extensive list of entries, 10 of them were shortlisted for the final round where each startup got the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a panel of venture capitalists and entrepreneurs. The panel included Shailesh Lakhani (Sequoia Capital), Vani Kola (Kalaari Capital), Deep Kalra (MakeMyTrip), Harsha Kumar (Lightspeed Ventures), and Abhijit Bose (WhatsApp).

Mr. Ramesh Abhishek, Secretary DPIIT, Govt. of India said, “We are constantly working to strengthen the ecosystem to support our startups by simplifying regulations, building infrastructure, and establishing meaningful partnerships.”

“India has proven to propel highly innovative ideas that are making significant impact to society and the economy, said Mr. Abhijit Bose, Head of WhatsApp India.

Showbox, a mysterious app that allows people to watch new films and TV shows for free, is back after a strange outage.

But the circumstances around that return is largely unknown, and anyone trying to use the popular app might be endangering themselves and their computer.

Showbox is a hugely popular app that allows for a Netflix-like experience but includes apparently torrented versions of new movies and TV shows. More specifically, there appears to be a number of versions of the app, all of which present themselves as the legitimate app.

The service stopped working recently, prompting concerns that the service might have been taken down entirely – but it seems to have emerged once again.

It is not clear if any of them are legitimate, however, and even the safest version of the app can be used to break the law or attack people's devices. Searching for the name Showbox on Google shows a variety of different apps and APKs available to download, all of them promising access to the Showbox service – but there is no guarantee any of them are legitimate at all.

Downloading such an app requires allowing it access to various important parts of your phone, and so doing so could be dangerous even if the tool actually works. What's more, the file can't be installed like any other Android app: users have to download an APK and then force their phone to accept it despite being from an unknown source, which means it doesn't have any of the guarantees that come with the official Google Play Store.

Even the most prominent of the apps – the version that appears first on Google – makes clear that its legal status is questionable and that it is safer to use legitimate alternatives. A similar disclaimer is contained on many other sites.

"Show Box is NOT a legitimate software application for watching copyright protected movies," a warning on that page reads. "The movie studios will be able to see your IP address and your COMPLETE viewing history! (Do you really want the movie studios knowing the types of videos you like?)

"You will very likely be sued for copyright infringement. It is not worth the trouble! You can use Best Legal apps (alternatives) like Netflix, Amazon Prime etc."

Showbox is entirely free and seems to take its content from torrents and file-sharing links. As such, it gives access to many of the latest releases, but brings with it a whole host of dangers that could exploit users' phones.
